Role & responsibilities

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the accession department.

- Supervise and manage the accession team across shifts.

- Ensure proper receipt, verification, identification, labeling and accessioning of patient samples.

- Ensure accurate patient and test information is entered and updated in the LIMS.

- Verify sample requirements, quantity, container, labeling and sample condition before processing.

- Monitor and control sample rejection, leakage, clotting, hemolysis, insufficient quantity, mislabeling and other pre-analytical errors.

- Ensure samples are properly segregated and routed to the respective departments such as Biochemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Histopathology, Molecular Biology, etc.

- Ensure samples reach the respective departments within the defined TAT.

- Coordinate with collection centres, phlebotomy, logistics/courier, customer care and technical departments for sample-related issues.

- Track delayed, pending and unprocessed samples and take immediate corrective action.

- Monitor accessioning TAT, sample rejection rate, error rate and productivity.





- Investigate sample discrepancies and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions

- Ensure strict adherence to laboratory SOPs, quality standards, safety procedures and regulatory requirements.

- Conduct regular process audits and identify opportunities for improvement.

- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly MIS and operational reports for management.

- Train current and existing accession staff on SOPs, LIMS, sample handling and quality requirements.

- Prepare staff duty rosters and ensure adequate manpower availability.

- Handle escalations related to sample discrepancies, delays, TAT breaches and accession errors.

- Coordinate with laboratory and operations teams to improve overall sample flow and operational efficiency.

- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of accession-related records.

Preferred candidate profile

- Should be comfortable working in rotational shifts and rotational weekly offs.

- Immediate joiners preferred.

- Prior experience in accessioning is required.

- Should be comfortable working at the Vidyavihar location.
