Job Purpose

Responsible for ensuring the quality of sheet metal fabricated and welded components by monitoring production processes, conducting inspections, identifying defects, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct incoming, in-process, and final inspection of sheet metal and welded components.
- Inspect components manufactured through Laser Cutting, CNC Bending, Fabrication, TIG Welding and MIG Welding processes.
- Verify component dimensions using Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge, Gauges and other measuring instruments.
- Check welding quality, including weld size, penetration, bead appearance, undercut, porosity, cracks, spatter and distortion.
- Ensure welding operations are carried out as per WPS, drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- Interpret and understand engineering drawings, GD&T; and welding symbols.
- Prepare and maintain Inspection Reports, Quality Check Sheets, NCR Reports and other quality records.
- Identify process and product defects and coordinate with Production and Engineering teams for corrective actions.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis and 8D.
- Implement and monitor Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Monitor welding and fabrication process parameters and ensure compliance with approved standards.
- Support first-piece inspection, prototype inspection and new product development activities.
- Conduct welding defect analysis and support improvement activities to reduce rejection and rework.
- Ensure calibration status of measuring instruments and maintain relevant records.




- Participate in internal, customer and certification audits.
- Support implementation of 5S, Kaizen, Continuous Improvement and Zero Defect initiatives.
- Coordinate with Production, PPC, Maintenance and Engineering teams to resolve quality issues.
- Prepare daily/weekly quality reports covering rejection, rework, defects and process performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable QMS procedures and customer-specific requirements.

Required Skills

- Good knowledge of Sheet Metal Fabrication and Welding Processes.
- Robust knowledge of TIG and MIG Welding and common welding defects.
- Ability to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Knowledge of GD&T; and dimensional inspection.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments and inspection methods.
- Knowledge of RCA, CAPA, 8D and problem-solving techniques.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Basic knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- MS Office knowledge, particularly Excel and Word.

Qualification

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

- 2–5 years of experience in Quality Engineering in sheet metal fabrication, TIG/MIG welding or automotive/engineering manufacturing.

Preferred Experience

- Experience in Laser Cutting, CNC Bending, Welding & Fabrication.
- Experience handling customer complaints and NCR/CAPA.
- Knowledge of welding quality standards and inspection practices.
- Experience in CMM or other advanced inspection equipment will be an added advantage.
