Purchase Executive – Fruits & Vegetables

About the Role
We are looking for a Purchase Executive to manage procurement of fresh fruits and vegetables for our growing F&V; trading and import business.
The candidate will be responsible for sourcing products from APMC markets, farmers, traders, aggregators, domestic suppliers and import suppliers, negotiating competitive prices, evaluating quality and coordinating the complete procurement cycle.
This is a highly commercial role where the candidate will be expected to understand market movements and make purchasing decisions that protect the company's margins.
Key Responsibilities1. Daily Procurement
- Source fruits and vegetables from APMC mandis, traders, farmers, aggregators and established suppliers.
- Identify new suppliers and develop long-term sourcing relationships.
- Obtain daily prices from multiple suppliers and markets.
- Negotiate the best possible purchase price based on quality, quantity and market conditions.
- Purchase according to sales requirements, market opportunities and inventory levels.
- Maintain a database of suppliers, prices and product specifications.
1. Market Intelligence
- Track daily prices across major F&V; markets.
- Monitor arrivals, demand, supply, seasonality and price movements.
- Understand price differences between source market and destination market.
- Identify products/markets where profitable trading opportunities exist.
- Provide daily market updates to management.
1. Quality Assessment
The candidate must be able to evaluate:
- Size and grade
- Colour and maturity
- Freshness
- Brix where applicable
- Physical damage
- Rot and defects
- Shelf life
- Packaging quality
- Expected wastage/shrinkage
The candidate should be capable of rejecting poor-quality material before purchase.
1. Commercial Decision-Making
Before finalising a purchase, calculate the expected:
Purchase Cost + Commission + Packing + Loading + Transportation + Unloading + Storage + Expected Wastage = Landed Cost
Compare landed cost with expected selling price and determine the expected gross margin.
Purchases should be made only after considering the company's target margin and market risk.
1. Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate loading with suppliers.
- Arrange transportation in coordination with the logistics team.
- Ensure correct quantity and quality is loaded.
- Coordinate with warehouses/cold storages.
- Track dispatches and deliveries.
- Monitor transit losses, shortages and quality deterioration.
1. Supplier Management
- Develop reliable suppliers across different sourcing regions.
- Negotiate payment and credit terms.
- Monitor supplier reliability and quality consistency.
- Resolve shortages, quality disputes and claims.
- Maintain supplier performance records.
1. Import Procurement
As the company expands its import business, the candidate may also assist with:
- Overseas supplier communication
- Product quotations
- Price comparison
- Shipment planning
- Import landed-cost calculations
- Container planning
- Coordination with CHA/logistics teams
- Monitoring international market prices
Experience in imported fruits and vegetables will be an advantage. Daily Reporting The candidate will provide management with a daily procurement report containing:

Candidate Profile We are looking for someone who:
- Understands the F&V; trading business, not just procurement procedures.
- Can negotiate aggressively but maintain supplier relationships.
- Is comfortable visiting mandis, warehouses and suppliers.
- Can make quick decisions based on market conditions.
- Has strong commercial awareness.
- Understands that a ₹2–5/kg difference in buying price can significantly affect profitability.
- Is comfortable working early mornings and outside conventional office hours when required.
- Can work independently and take ownership of purchasing decisions.

Compensation
Salary: Depending on experience and capability.
Performance Incentive: Additional incentive linked to procurement performance and/or gross margin generated.
The company offers an opportunity to grow into a Procurement Manager / Commodity Trader role based on performance.
Important
This is not a routine purchase-order/data-entry position.
The successful candidate will be expected to find opportunities, negotiate prices, understand market risk, control procurement costs and contribute directly to the company's profitability.
Pay: ₹10,877.46 - ₹25,000.00 per month
