Role Description The PhD Student in Marine Geology will conduct independent and collaborative research on marine sedimentology, stratigraphy, and related geochemical and geophysical processes. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and executing field surveys and sampling campaigns, processing and analyzing marine geological data, and using analytical and computational tools to interpret results. The role involves reviewing scientific literature, preparing research proposals, maintaining detailed records, and contributing to publications and conference presentations.

The PhD student will also participate in departmental seminars, assist with mentoring junior students as needed, and comply with the institute's research and safety guidelines. This is a full-time, on-site role based at Agharkar Research Institute in Pune, India,



with possible fieldwork along the Indian coastal and Polar marine regions.

Qualifications

- Strong academic background in Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline; Master’s degree (M.Sc./M.Tech.) in a relevant field is typically required.
- Qualified CSIR-UGC NET-JRF, UGC-JRF, DBT-JRF, or any other equivalent fellowship.
- Knowledge of marine sedimentology, stratigraphy, palaeoceanography, or marine geochemistry, and familiarity with coastal and oceanographic processes.
- Ability to design and conduct fieldwork, including marine sampling, core collection, and in office data acquisition, following safety and ethical standards.
- Motivation to pursue high-quality doctoral research, willingness to engage in fieldwork and extended hours when required, and adherence to research integrity and institute policies.
