Remote | Part-Time | Preschool Mobile GamesI am an indie game developer based in India, developing Unity mobile games for Android, primarily targeting the US market.
My main focus is preschool games for children aged approximately 2–5 years.
I am looking for a senior game designer / creative director / game product designer to work with me on a part-time, ongoing basis.
This is NOT a Unity developer roleI already have development capability.
I am specifically looking for someone who can help me answer:
"What makes a preschool game commercially successful, and how do we make our games significantly better?"My games are functional and reasonably polished, but I feel they are not yet at the level of successful commercial games in terms of gameplay, engagement, replayability, polish and overall product quality.
I previously worked with a game designer, but the results were not strong enough. I am therefore looking for someone with significantly more practical experience.
What you would doYou would work with me on an ongoing basis to:
- Review existing games and identify their weaknesses
- Improve core gameplay loops
- Develop and evaluate new game concepts
- Review prototypes before significant development
- Improve FTUE/onboarding
- Improve engagement and replayability
- Design progression and reward systems
- Improve game feel and child interaction
- Advise on UI/UX for ages 2–5
- Review art direction and overall polish
- Analyze successful competing preschool games
- Help determine which concepts are worth developing
- Analyze retention and player behavior when data is available
- Help establish a repeatable game-development formula
- Eventually develop variations/sequels around successful concepts
I want someone who can tell me what not to build, not just someone who can create a design document. A major objectiveI am trying to move from:
"Let's make another children's game."
to:
"Let's discover a repeatable preschool game formula that can produce multiple successful games."
I am particularly interested in people who understand how successful mobile studios build repeatable game concepts, characters, gameplay systems and franchises.
Ideal candidateYou should have
- 5+ years of professional game-design/product experience
- Strong mobile-game experience
- Experience with casual games and/or children's games
- Strong understanding of player engagement and retention
- Experience designing for young children is highly preferred
- Experience with the US market is highly preferred
- Experience shipping commercially successful games
- Strong understanding of mobile UX
- Ability to analyze a game critically and explain why something works or doesn't work
Preschool experience is strongly preferredExperience with games/apps for approximately ages 2–6 would be a major advantage. However, I would also consider an excellent senior mobile game designer who has strong casual-game experience and can demonstrate a deep understanding of children's game design.
Most key qualificationPlease provide 2–3 commercially released games you personally worked on.
For each game, please explain:
- Your role
- What you personally designed
- Approximate downloads/users, if available
- Whether you were involved in the product/gameplay decisions
- What you learned from the game's performance
I am much more interested in actual shipped games and results than certificates or generic game-design experience. Working arrangement
- Remote
- Part-time
- Initially approximately 10–15 hours per week
- Long-term engagement preferred
- Flexible schedule, with some overlap for video calls
- Hourly or monthly arrangement can be discussed
- Initial paid trial/project before committing to a longer engagement
