Position: Obstetrics & Gynaecology Physician Assistant (OG PA)

Reports To: Obstetrician & Gynaecologist / Medical Director
Job Summary The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Physician Assistant supports the Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in OPD, IPD, labour room and clinical activities. The role involves assisting with patient assessment, documentation, procedures, follow-up care and coordination with the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
1. OPD Responsibilities
- Assist the Gynaecologist during OPD consultations.
- Take and document patient history and relevant clinical information.
- Assist with preliminary patient assessment as directed by the doctor.
- Review previous medical records, scan reports, laboratory reports and other investigations.
- Prepare patients for consultation and assist during examinations.
- Coordinate investigations and follow-up appointments.
- Provide patients with instructions regarding investigations and follow-up as advised by the doctor.
2. IPD Responsibilities
- Assist the doctor during regular rounds of admitted patients.
- Monitor and document patients' clinical progress as directed.
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
- Coordinate investigations, procedures and consultations.
- Communicate relevant patient updates to the treating doctor and nursing team.
- Assist with discharge procedures and provide follow-up instructions as advised.
3. Obstetrics Responsibilities
- Assist the Obstetrician in antenatal and postnatal patient care.
- Assist with antenatal assessments and documentation as directed.
- Monitor and record vital signs and relevant clinical observations.
- Assist in preparing patients for labour and delivery.
- Assist the doctor and nursing team during labour and delivery procedures.
- Support postnatal patient monitoring and care.
- Assist in coordinating investigations such as ultrasound and laboratory tests.
4. Gynaecology Responsibilities
- Assist during gynaecological examinations and procedures.
- Prepare patients and required equipment for procedures.
- Assist the doctor during minor gynaecological procedures as instructed.
- Maintain appropriate clinical documentation.
- Provide basic patient education and follow-up instructions as advised by the doctor.
5. Emergency & Labour Room Support
- Assist the doctor in managing obstetric and gynaecological emergencies.
- Support patient preparation and coordination for emergency investigations and procedures.
- Monitor patients and immediately report any significant changes in condition to the treating doctor.
- Assist the medical and nursing team during emergency situations.
6. Documentation & Coordination
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
- Assist with clinical notes, case sheets and discharge documentation as directed.
- Coordinate with nursing, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and other departments.
- Ensure required investigation reports are available for doctor review.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
7. Patient Care & Counselling
- Communicate politely and professionally with patients and attendants.
- Provide basic health and follow-up instructions as advised by the doctor.
- Support patients during OPD, admission, procedures and discharge.
- Handle sensitive women's health information with professionalism and confidentiality.
8. Professional Responsibilities
- Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols and infection-control procedures.
- Maintain proper grooming and professional appearance.
- Maintain punctuality and adhere to assigned duty schedules.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training and quality-improvement activities.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Obstetrician & Gynaecologist or hospital management within the scope of the role.
Qualification
- B.Sc. Physician Assistant / Bachelor of Physician Assistant or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology is preferred.
- Hospital experience in OPD/IPD or Labour Room is an advantage.
- Freshers with relevant qualification may be considered based on suitability.
Required Skills
- Valuable knowledge of basic clinical procedures and patient care.
- Basic understanding of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
- Good patient-handling and communication skills.
- Ability to assist doctors efficiently during OPD, IPD and procedures.
- Good documentation and computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively with doctors, nurses and other hospital staff.
- Willingness to work rotational shifts and emergency duties.
