1. Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures safely and efficiently. The role involves preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals under authorized medical supervision, operation of nuclear medicine imaging equipment, patient preparation and monitoring, radiation safety, image acquisition, quality control, and maintaining accurate documentation.
1. Key Responsibilities

Patient Care
- Receive and identify patients and verify examination details.
- Explain procedures clearly and obtain appropriate patient cooperation.
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine examinations according to established protocols.
- Assess relevant patient information, including clinical history and previous investigations.
- Position patients correctly for imaging procedures.
- Monitor patients during and after procedures and report any adverse reactions or concerns immediately.

Nuclear Medicine Procedures
- Perform nuclear medicine imaging procedures such as:

- SPECT

- SPECT/CT
- PET/CT, where applicable
- Whole-body scans

- Bone scans

- Renal scans
- Thyroid scans and uptake studies

- Cardiac nuclear medicine studies
- Hepatobiliary and other specialized studies
- Prepare the patient and imaging system according to the prescribed protocol.
- Acquire high-quality diagnostic images and ensure appropriate image coverage.
- Assist the Nuclear Medicine Physician during specialized procedures.

Radiopharmaceutical Handling
- Handle radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with approved procedures and radiation-safety requirements.
- Verify radiopharmaceutical details, activity, patient identity, and prescribed study before administration.
- Follow appropriate procedures for preparation, storage, administration, and disposal of radioactive materials.
- Maintain accurate records of radiopharmaceutical receipt, usage, and disposal.
- Immediately report spills, contamination, equipment issues,



or unusual incidents to the appropriate authority/RSO.

Radiation Safety
- Strictly follow radiation protection principles and departmental safety protocols.
- Use appropriate personal monitoring devices and protective measures.
- Minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, visitors, and the public.
- Follow ALARA principles (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
- Maintain controlled access to radiation areas.
- Cooperate with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) in radiation monitoring, compliance, and incident reporting.
- Follow applicable regulatory requirements and institutional radiation-safety procedures.

Equipment Operation & Quality Control
- Operate gamma cameras, SPECT/CT, PET/CT and related equipment as applicable.
- Perform routine equipment checks and basic troubleshooting.
- Ensure imaging equipment is properly calibrated and functioning before procedures.
- Conduct or assist with prescribed quality-control procedures.
- Maintain equipment logs and promptly report technical problems to biomedical/technical support.

Documentation & Records
- Maintain accurate patient and procedure records.
- Document radiopharmaceutical administration and relevant procedural details.
- Maintain quality-control, radiation-safety, equipment, and inventory records.
- Ensure proper entry of examination details into the hospital/diagnostic information system.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

1. Infection Control

- Follow standard infection-control and biomedical-waste management procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of the imaging and patient-care areas.
- Use appropriate PPE wherever required.
- Follow safe handling and disposal procedures for contaminated materials.

1. Coordination

- Coordinate with Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Radiologists, RSO, Radiographers, Nurses, Reception, and other clinical departments.




- Coordinate examination schedules and patient workflow efficiently.
- Communicate any patient-related or technical issues promptly to the concerned department.
- Assist in maintaining smooth patient flow and reducing waiting time.

1. Qualifications

- B.Sc. / Diploma in Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Relevant registration/licensing or regulatory requirements, wherever applicable.
- Additional training in PET/CT, SPECT/CT, radiation safety, or related nuclear medicine procedures will be an advantage.

1. Experience

- Freshers: May be considered depending on qualification and institutional requirements.
- Experienced candidates: Preferably 15 years of experience in a nuclear medicine department, particularly with SPECT/CT or PET/CT.

- Knowledge of radiation protection and safety practices.

- Compliance with equipment QC procedures.
- Timely completion of scheduled investigations.
- Compliance with infection-control and departmental SOPs.
- Maintenance of accurate clinical and regulatory records.

1. Working Conditions

- Full-time role within a controlled radiation environment.
- May require rotational shifts, weekends, or extended working hours based on department requirements.
- Strict adherence to radiation-safety and regulatory procedures is mandatory.
