About the Role
We are looking for a Newsroom Specialist to be part of our fast-paced editorial team. The role involves tracking the news cycle, identifying important developments, researching and verifying information, supporting reporters and editors, and helping shape stories across platforms.
The ideal candidate is curious, politically and socially aware, comfortable working with large volumes of information and capable of distinguishing what is merely trending from what actually matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the daily news cycle across politics, governance, society, economy and other key beats.
- Identify emerging stories, developments and trends that warrant editorial attention.
- Conduct research, background checks and fact verification for stories.
- Track government announcements, parliamentary proceedings, policy developments, political activity and important public conversations.
- Assist reporters and editors with research, data, documents, timelines and contextual information.
- Develop story ideas, briefs, backgrounders and editorial inputs.
- Follow breaking news and provide timely updates to the editorial team.
- Verify information from social media, official documents,
press releases and other sources before publication.
- Maintain databases, source lists, timelines and other newsroom research resources.
- Coordinate with writers, reporters, video editors and social media teams to ensure stories are effectively adapted across platforms.
- Contribute to newsletters, explainers, social content and other editorial products when required.
- Work flexible hours when the news cycle demands it.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of Indian politics, governance and current affairs.
- Excellent research, writing and information-verification skills.
- Ability to quickly understand complex issues and distil them into clear editorial inputs.
- Strong internet research and source-evaluation skills.
- Familiarity with government websites, parliamentary documents, policy papers and public databases is an advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet newsroom deadlines.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Prior experience in journalism, research, political communication, digital media or a newsroom is preferred.
