Essential Job Functions:

- Manage and maintain MS-SQL , DB2 & Informix databases.

- Perform routine maintenance, backups, and recovery.

- Monitor performance and optimize queries.

- Implement security and access controls.

- Support database upgrades and patching.

- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues.

Qualifications

- 5+ years of experience in DBA roles.

- Strong expertise in MS-SQL & Informix or DB2

- Experience with performance tuning and optimization.

- Familiarity with data migration and ETL processes.

- Excellent communication skills in English.

SQL Server DBA Requirements

- Database Installation & Configuration: Expertise in installing, configuring, and upgrading SQL Server versions (typically 2016 and newer) and applying Service Packs/patches.

- Backup and Recovery: Establishing, maintaining, and testing comprehensive backup and recovery strategies to meet specific RPO/RTO goals.

- High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR): Experience implementing and managing HA/DR solutions, primarily Always On Availability Groups (AGs) and Failover Cluster Instances (FCIs).

- Security Management: Managing server roles, database roles, logins, users, and ensuring compliance with security best practices.

- Maintenance & Monitoring: Creating and managing maintenance plans and using monitoring tools (DMVs, Extended Events, third-party software).

- Execution Plan Analysis: Advanced ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex query execution plans.

- Indexing Strategy: Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining appropriate indexes and statistics.

- T-SQL Optimization: Proficiency in rewriting inefficient T-SQL code and optimizing stored procedures, functions, and triggers.

- Wait Statistics Analysis: Deep understanding of SQL Server Wait Statistics to diagnose system-level bottlenecks.

- Database Configuration Tuning:



Adjusting server and database configuration settings (e.g., MAXDOP, memory limits) to optimize performance.

- Cloud SQL Deployment Models: Deep understanding of the differences between, and the management of, the three primary cloud deployment models.

- SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) / AWS EC2: Managing SQL Server installed directly on a cloud VM, requiring expertise in OS, patching, and traditional HA/DR setup.

- Azure SQL Database (PaaS): Managing the platform-as-a-service offering, focusing on performance tiers, elastic pools, auto-tuning, and built-in HA/DR.

- Azure SQL Managed Instance (PaaS): Managing the hybrid cloud offering that provides near 100% feature compatibility with on-premises SQL Server, while maintaining PaaS benefits like automated patching.

- AWS RDS for SQL Server (PaaS): Managing the Client Relational Database Service (RDS) specifically for SQL Server, focusing on parameter groups, licensing, and automated backups/scaling.

- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in T-SQL and automation via PowerShell, including experience using Azure CLI or AWS CLI.

- SSIS Management and Development: Installation/Migration, Expertise in installing and configuring the SSIS service and migrating or upgrading SSIS packages from older versions to newer environments.

- Package Deployment and Management: Managing packages in the SSIS Catalog (SSISDB), including setting up environments, connection strings, and managing permissions.

- Debugging and Troubleshooting: Ability to debug and troubleshoot complex SSIS packages using logging, checkpoints, event handlers, and SSIS Catalog reports to diagnose failures or performance issues.

- Migration of Packages: Experience with upgrading/migrating SSIS packages and projects when migrating to newer SQL Server versions.

- Reporting Services Configuration: Expertise in installing, configuring, and maintaining the SSRS service(Native and SharePoint Integrated modes, if applicable).

- Security and Delivery: Managing SSRS security (roles and assignments),



setting up subscriptions, and configuring data-driven subscriptions for report delivery.

- Report Management: Managing reports and data sources within the Report Server portal or SharePoint library.

- Capacity Planning: Monitoring and forecasting database growth in both on-premises and cloud environments, considering scaling limits and cost optimization for PaaS/IaaS resources.

- Documentation: Ability to create and maintain explicit, comprehensive documentation for all deployment models.

- Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders.

- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to quickly diagnose and resolve complex technical issues under pressure.

- On-Call Availability: Willingness to participate in a 24/7 On-Call rotation.
