Job Title- MEP Design & Estimation Engineer (Industrial Construction)
Role Purpose To own endtoend MEP design support and cost estimation for industrial projects (factories, warehouses, process plants, industrial buildings, substations), from tender stage through execution, ensuring technically sound, codecompliant, and commercially competitive MEP solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design (MEP Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire, LV)
- Develop / review MEP designs for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical distribution, LV systems for industrial facilities and substations.
- Prepare conceptual and detailed layouts: equipment locations, ducting/piping routes, cable trays, risers, panel locations, fire systems, etc.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes/standards (e.g., NBC, IS, NFPA, local authority regulations; client specifications).
- Coordinate with civil, structural, process, and architectural teams to resolve clashes and ensure constructability.
- Use AutoCAD / Revit / BIM tools for drafting, modelling, and coordination as required.
Estimation & Tendering
- Review tender documents (ITT/ITB, drawings, specs, BOQ, schedules) and define MEP scope, assumptions, and risks.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed BOQs for all MEP disciplines from design drawings and specifications.
- Prepare cost estimates covering materials, labour, equipment, subcontractors, testing/commissioning, direct & indirect costs, overheads, contingencies, and profit.
- Float enquiries to vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors; evaluate quotations against technical specs, delivery terms, and commercial conditions.
- Conduct vendor/subcontractor negotiations to achieve target prices and improve bid competitiveness.
- Prepare cost sheets, comparative statements, and final contract BOQs aligned with agreed contract value.
- Contribute to technical proposals, method statements, and clarifications during precontract and posttender stages.
- Support value engineering:
propose alternate materials/systems and lifecycle cost options without compromising code compliance or performance.
Project Handover & Execution Support
- Hand over estimated BOQs, assumptions, and risk registers to project teams at kickoff.
- Support project teams with material finalization, submittals, and changeorder pricing where design or scope changes occur.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, unit rates, vendor lists, and historical cost data for future bids
Required Qualifications & Experience
- BE / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / MEP (or related) engineering.
- Typically 4–8 years of experience in MEP design and/or estimation, with at least 2–3 years in industrial construction / EPC / contracting environments.
- Strong exposure to industrial buildings, factories, warehouses, process plants, or substations is preferred.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes/standards (NBC, IS, NFPA; local authority norms).
Technical Skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Revit / BIM is a solid plus.
- Strong in quantity takeoffs, BOQ preparation, rate analysis, and cost breakdowns.
- Comfortable using Excel for estimation models, comparisons, and dashboards.
- Familiarity with estimating tools (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, OST, or similar) is advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs;, singleline diagrams, layout drawings, specifications, and datasheets.
Commercial & Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and numerical ability with high accuracy in calculations.
- Good vendor and subcontractor management skills; comfortable negotiating prices and terms.
- Clear written and verbal communication for RFIs, clarifications, internal coordination, and client interactions.
- Ability to work under tight bid deadlines, handle multiple tenders, and prioritize effectively.
- Strong HSE awareness and commitment to safe design and execution practices.
