Mechanical Construction Site Quality Manager Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Quality Planning & Assurance Develop and implement the Project Quality Plan (PQP) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for mechanical works (e.g., piping, welding, HVAC, fire-fighting systems, pressure vessels, etc.).

Ensure all quality control procedures are in place and followed throughout the project.

Identify applicable codes, standards, and specifications (e.g., ASME, AWS, API, IS codes).

2. Inspection & Testing Plan and conduct inspections at various stages: material receipt, fabrication, erection, hydrotesting, NDT, and final system walk-down.

Supervise and coordinate with QA/QC inspectors, third-party inspectors, and client representatives.

Ensure proper execution of NDT (RT, UT, MPI, LPT), pressure testing, alignment checks, weld visual inspections, and dimensional checks.

3. Documentation & Records Maintain and review all quality-related documentation: WPS, PQR, WPQ, material test certificates (MTC), inspection reports, NCRs, etc.

Prepare Inspection Test Records (ITRs) and turnover dossiers as part of system handover.

Ensure that quality documents are properly archived and retrievable for audits or client reviews.

4. Compliance & Audits Ensure compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and legal codes.





Conduct regular internal audits and coordinate with external audits (client/third-party).

Address non-conformities (NCRs), root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

5. Team Coordination & Supervision Supervise the site QA/QC team including inspectors and document controllers.

Train engineers, supervisors, and technicians on quality procedures and best practices.

Liaise between site team, client quality representatives, and third-party inspection agencies.

6. Client Interface & Reporting Attend quality review meetings with clients and consultants.

Present quality status reports: weld rejection rates, test completion, punch list status, etc.

Coordinate and close punch points, QA observations, and client comments.

Typical Mechanical Systems Overseen Piping systems (CS, SS, alloy)

Equipment installation (pumps, compressors, tanks)

Welding and fabrication

HVAC ducting and chilled water systems

Fire fighting and plumbing systems

Pressure testing and flushing activities

Required Skills & Qualifications

Robust knowledge of ASME, AWS, API, IS codes.

Experience in welding, piping inspection, NDT, and material testing.

Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.

Proficiency in QA/QC documentation and handover.

Leadership and communication skills to manage site and client interactions.
