Position: Librarian

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the institute library and information services.
- Develop, organize, maintain, and update library collections including books, journals, research publications, reports, and digital resources.
- Perform cataloguing, classification, indexing, and database management of library materials.
- Issue, receive, renew, and maintain records of books and other library resources.
- Maintain accurate library accession registers, circulation records, stock registers, and related documentation.
- Assist researchers, scientists, technical staff, students, and other users in locating relevant information and reference materials.
- Manage subscriptions to national and international journals, e-journals, databases, and online research resources.
- Provide reference and information services, including literature searches and research-support services.
- Support users in accessing online databases, e-books, institutional repositories, and other electronic resources.
- Assist in maintaining and updating the institute's digital library/repository.
- Conduct periodic stock verification and ensure proper preservation and maintenance of library resources.
- Prepare library reports, statistics, statements, and other official documentation.
- Coordinate with publishers, vendors, and subscription agencies for procurement and renewal of library resources.
- Assist in organizing exhibitions, book displays, library awareness programmes, seminars, and training sessions.




- Ensure compliance with applicable ICAR/government library procedures and standards.
- Undertake any other library and information-service responsibilities assigned by the competent authority.

Educational Qualification

Essential:

- Master's Degree in Library & Information Science / Library Science / Information Science from a recognized university/institution.

Desirable:

- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Science, Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of library automation and digital library systems.
- Knowledge of KOHA, DSpace, SOUL, or other Library Management/Integrated Library Management Systems.
- Familiarity with MARC 21, AACR2/RDA, DDC, and standard library classification/cataloguing practices.
- Knowledge of electronic databases, online journals, institutional repositories, and research information services.

Experience
- Relevant experience in library management, academic/research institute libraries, government organizations, universities, or scientific institutions will be preferred.
- Experience in handling digital library services, research databases, e-resources, and library automation will be an advantage.
