Experience: 3–8 Years in an Academic/College Library
Qualification: Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS/MLISc) or equivalent
Preferred: Candidates with experience in a higher-education institution and knowledge of digital library systems
Job Purpose The Librarian will be responsible for the overall administration, development, and effective functioning of the college library, ensuring that students, faculty, researchers, and staff have timely access to relevant academic and digital resources.
The position requires a combination of library management, technology, student support, resource development, documentation, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Library Administration
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Central Library.
- Ensure smooth functioning of library services during prescribed working hours.
- Develop and implement library policies, SOPs, and procedures.
- Maintain discipline, cleanliness, and an academic environment within the library.
- Supervise library staff and allocate duties effectively.
- Prepare duty rosters and monitor staff attendance and performance.
2. Collection & Resource Management
- Plan and manage procurement of books, journals, periodicals, e-books, databases, newspapers, and other academic resources.
- Assess resource requirements in consultation with HODs and faculty members.
- Maintain proper records of acquisitions, subscriptions, renewals, and cancellations.
- Conduct regular physical verification of library resources.
- Identify outdated, damaged, duplicate, or unused resources and recommend appropriate action.
- Ensure proper classification, cataloguing, labelling, and shelving of resources.
3. Digital Library & Technology
- Manage the college's Library Management System (LMS) and digital library resources.
- Maintain and update digital databases and electronic resources.
- Support students and faculty in accessing e-journals, e-books, research databases and online academic resources.
- Ensure proper functioning of library automation systems.
- Generate MIS reports related to library usage, circulation, resources, and subscriptions.
- Explore technology-driven solutions to improve library services.

Student & Faculty Services
- Facilitate efficient issue and return of books and other resources.
- Assist students and faculty in locating relevant academic and research material.
- Promote effective utilization of library resources.
- Conduct orientation sessions for new students regarding library facilities and services.
- Provide research support to faculty and students.
- Assist users in literature searches and accessing scholarly databases.
5. Research Support
- Support faculty and research scholars in accessing relevant literature and databases.
- Facilitate access to research journals and academic databases.
- Promote awareness of plagiarism, citation practices, referencing tools, and research resources.
- Support institutional research and publication requirements.
- Maintain records of research-related library resources and usage.
6. Compliance & Accreditation
- Maintain proper documentation and records required for NAAC, NBA, NIRF, AICTE, university and other statutory/accreditation requirements, as applicable.
- Ensure library data and documentation are updated and readily available for inspections and audits.
- Prepare library-related reports, statistics, and supporting documents.
- Maintain records of resource adequacy and utilization.
7. Budget & Vendor Management
- Prepare the annual library budget and resource requirements.
- Monitor expenditure against the approved library budget.
- Coordinate with publishers, book suppliers, database providers, and other vendors.
- Evaluate vendors based on quality, pricing, service, and reliability.
- Ensure timely renewal of subscriptions and licenses.
8. Library Development
- Develop initiatives to increase library utilization among students and faculty.
- Organize book exhibitions, reading initiatives, author interactions, research workshops, and other academic activities.
- Introduce innovative library services and technology-enabled learning resources.
- Regularly evaluate user feedback and implement improvements.

Preferred Technical Knowledge Candidates with knowledge of the following will be preferred:
- Library automation software
- KOHA or similar LMS
- Digital Repository systems
- DELNET / N-LIST / INFLIBNET or equivalent resources
- E-journal and e-book databases
- Institutional repositories
- RFID/barcode-based library systems
- Plagiarism detection tools
- Research databases and citation management tools
- Excel/MIS reporting

Qualification
Essential:
- Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS/MLISc) or equivalent from a recognized institution.

- Candidates with experience in NAAC/NBA/NIRF documentation, digital library management, and library automation will be preferred.
