– Lab Chemist (Steel Plant)

Position: Lab Chemist

Experience: 2–5 years in a steel plant / metallurgical laboratory

Qualification: B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry, preferably Analytical Chemistry

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct chemical analysis of raw materials, molten metal, billets, blooms, finished steel and other process samples.
- Analyse elements such as C, Mn, Si, S, P, Cr, Ni, Mo, Cu, Al, etc. as per required specifications.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer), Spectrophotometer, Carbon/Sulphur Analyzer and other chemical testing equipment.
- Prepare samples, solutions, reagents and standards for laboratory testing.
- Perform wet chemical analysis and instrumental analysis as required.
- Ensure test results are accurate, reliable and reported within the required turnaround time.
- Maintain proper records of test results, calibration, standardization and laboratory activities.
- Carry out routine calibration, verification and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Monitor and maintain lab chemicals, reagents, consumables and reference standards.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, SOPs, safety procedures and laboratory practices.
- Investigate abnormal or out-of-specification test results and coordinate with Production and Quality teams for corrective action.




- Support incoming raw material inspection, process quality control and final product testing.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping and ensure safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals.
- Assist in internal/external audits, ISO documentation and quality-system compliance.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance and other departments for timely analysis and reporting.

Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry and steel/metal testing.
- Practical experience with OES and other laboratory instruments.
- Knowledge of steel chemistry, grades and chemical specifications.
- Good understanding of calibration, standardization, sampling and testing procedures.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 / ISO 17025 will be an advantage.
- Valuable analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work in rotational shifts in a steel-plant environment.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
