About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Application Specialist (Java L3 Support) to join a global support and engineering team supporting critical applications for Goldman Sachs, one of the world's leading investment banks.

This is not a traditional support role. The position combines production support, troubleshooting, automation, problem-solving, development, and domain learning. Successful candidates will work closely with global teams to identify, troubleshoot, and permanently resolve production issues while contributing to system improvements and automation initiatives.

Key ResponsibilitiesApplication Support & Production Management

- Provide L3 support for business-critical applications in production environments.
- Perform deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring and complex production issues and implement permanent fixes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve high-severity incidents within defined SLAs.
- Monitor application health, performance, and availability using monitoring and alerting tools.
- Analyze application logs, server logs, and system metrics to identify issues proactively.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, database, and development teams for issue resolution.
- Participate in on-call and production support rotations.

Java Development & Enhancement

- Design, develop, and maintain applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop code fixes, enhancements, and recent functionality for supported applications.
- Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code following best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical design discussions.
- Optimize application performance and improve system reliability.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.

Linux & Middleware Support

- Work extensively on Unix/Linux systems for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Perform log analysis and system monitoring.
- Create and maintain shell scripts for automation and operational activities.
- Support application deployments and release activities.

ITIL & Operational Excellence

- Manage Incidents, Problems, Changes, and Service Requests as per ITIL processes.




- Maintain support documentation, runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge articles.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce recurring incidents.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 48 years of experience in Application Support and Java Development.
- Strong hands-on experience in Java 8/11/17 and Spring Boot.
- Excellent coding skills in Java (Mandatory).
- Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and design patterns.
- Experience in troubleshooting and debugging Java applications.
- Solid working knowledge of Unix/Linux commands, shell scripting, and system diagnostics.
- Experience with REST APIs and microservices architecture.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience supporting high-availability, business-critical applications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a global delivery environment.

Preferred Skills (Good to Have)

- Experience in Investment Banking or Financial Services domain.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.).
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Strong understanding of ITIL processes.
- Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka, MQ, or RabbitMQ.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, or ELK.

Work Schedule

Education & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in Java-based application support, production support, or software engineering roles.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale applications is preferred.
