Position: IB Individuals & Societies Facilitator

Job Summary The Individuals & Societies Candidate will be responsible for providing academic and curriculum expertise in the IB Individuals & Societies subject group. The role will focus on curriculum development, academic content creation, assessment design, quality assurance, and supporting teachers in delivering engaging, inquiry-based and concept-driven learning experiences.

The SME will work closely with the IB Academic and Curriculum teams to ensure that learning resources and curriculum plans are aligned with IB philosophy, approaches to teaching and learning, inquiry-based learning, conceptual understanding, and relevant assessment requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, review, and enhance Individuals & Societies curriculum content in alignment with the relevant IB programme and school academic framework.
- Support the development of concept-driven and inquiry-based learning experiences.
- Develop curriculum maps, scope and sequence, unit plans, learning outcomes, and progression frameworks.
- Create high-quality academic resources including lesson materials, inquiry tasks, case studies, source-based activities, worksheets, presentations, projects, and digital learning resources.
- Ensure learning experiences encourage students to critically analyse social, cultural, economic, political, geographical, and historical issues.
- Integrate local and global contexts into curriculum and learning resources.
- Develop learning experiences that promote research, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and reflection.
- Support interdisciplinary learning and identify meaningful connections between Individuals & Societies and other subject areas.
- Develop differentiated resources to address diverse learner needs and abilities.
- Design formative and summative assessments aligned with IB assessment principles and learning objectives.
- Develop assessment tasks, rubrics, success criteria, marking guidelines, and exemplars where required.
- Review assessment resources to ensure appropriate balance of knowledge, conceptual understanding, application, analysis, and evaluation.




- Conduct academic audits and quality checks of existing Individuals & Societies resources.
- Ensure accuracy, relevance, inclusivity, and academic integrity of all curriculum content.
- Review textbooks, digital resources, reference materials, and other instructional resources for suitability within an IB context.
- Support teachers with subject-specific guidance, curriculum planning, assessment practices, and classroom strategies.
- Conduct subject-specific workshops and professional development sessions for teachers when required.
- Provide guidance on effective inquiry questions, research skills, source evaluation, and evidence-based learning.
- Encourage the use of authentic primary and secondary sources and real-world contexts.
- Stay updated with developments in IB curriculum frameworks, assessment practices, pedagogy, and Individuals & Societies disciplines.
- Support the integration of technology, digital research tools, and cutting-edge teaching methodologies.
- Collaborate with IB coordinators, curriculum leaders, teachers, and other SMEs to maintain curriculum coherence.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, version control, and academic records for all curriculum resources.
- Ensure timely completion of curriculum development and content projects.
- Undertake any other academic responsibilities assigned by the reporting authority.

IB-Specific Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the IB Learner Profile and its application in curriculum and classroom practice.
- Incorporate IB Approaches to Teaching and Approaches to Learning into curriculum resources.
- Promote inquiry, conceptual understanding, contextual learning, and student agency.




- Support the development of students as critical and reflective thinkers.
- Encourage interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary connections wherever appropriate.
- Ensure curriculum resources promote international-mindedness and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
- Support teachers in developing meaningful inquiry questions and authentic learning experiences.
- Contribute to curriculum review and development based on student learning outcomes and assessment evidence.

Qualifications
- Master's Degree in History / Geography / Economics / Political Science / Sociology / Psychology / Business Studies / Education or a related discipline.
- B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification preferred.
- IB professional development/training is highly desirable.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Additional qualifications in curriculum development, educational leadership, or instructional design will be an advantage.

Experience
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in teaching Individuals & Societies or one of its related disciplines.
- Strong experience in an IB school environment is preferred.
- Experience with MYP and/or DP curriculum and assessment will be an advantage.
- Prior experience as an IB Subject Coordinator, Senior Teacher, Curriculum Developer, Subject Matter Expert, or Academic Content Developer will be preferred.
- Experience in developing inquiry-based curriculum and assessment resources.
- Experience working collaboratively with curriculum and academic teams.
