Job Role/Title
Head HSSE - Renewables
Overall, Job Objectives
Lead the Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) function for the Renewables business, ensuring robust HSSE governance, risk management, compliance, and operational excellence across Solar, Wind, and Hybrid project sites. Establish a strong safety culture and ensure all renewable energy assets are developed, constructed, and operated in line with global HSSE standards.

- Develop and implement HSSE strategies, frameworks, and policies for Renewables (Solar, Wind, Hybrid).
- Build and institutionalize a strong safety culture across project, construction, and O&M; teams.
- Serve as the senior HSSE advisor to leadership for all risk related matters.
- Ensure full compliance with national regulations, environmental laws, labour safety standards, ISO standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001), and internal HSSE policies.
- Lead audits, inspections, and compliance assessments across all sites and corporate offices.
- Ensure incident reporting, classification, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Oversee HSSE planning and execution during project development, construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Review and approve HIRA, HAZOP, EIA, EMP, JSA, method statements, and emergency response plans.
- Ensure EPC partners, contractors, and OEMs meet contractual HSSE obligations and performance KPIs
- Lead enterprise level risk identification and mitigation for all Renewable assets.
- Implement proactive risk monitoring programs, including behavioural based safety (BBS) and leading indicators.
- Drive reduction in LTIFR, TRIR, near miss events, environmental incidents,
and contractor risk exposure.
- Develop training frameworks for employees, EPC partners, and contractors on HSSE standards and critical risk controls.
- Conduct periodic workshops, safety drills, and competency assessments.
- Promote awareness through HSSE campaigns, Toolbox Talks, and leadership walk‑downs.
- Collaborate with Projects, O&M;, SCM, Legal, HR, and Corporate teams for integrated HSSE governance.
- Evaluate contractors and suppliers on HSSE capability during pre‑qualification and onboarding.
- Build strong relationships with auditors, regulators, statutory bodies, and certification agencies.
- Lead HSSE reporting, dashboards, KPIs, incident trends, and monthly performance reviews.
- Utilize data analytics to drive leading indicators and prevent incidents.
- Benchmark with industry best practices and continuously upgrade systems and policies for improvement.
- Lead and mentor the HSSE team across multiple states and sites.
- Build technical capability, drive accountability, and create a high performance safety culture.
No. of Years of Experience
- 18+ years of experience in HSSE roles.
- Minimum 5 years leading HSSE for Renewable Energy (Solar/Wind) projects or large infrastructure/utility projects.
Minimum Educational Requirement, & any industry preference
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering / environmental sciences / safety engineering (mandatory).
- Master’s degree or Diploma in Industrial Safety / Environmental Management (preferred).
- Certifications such as NEBOSH IGC/IDip, IOSH, ISO Auditor are highly desirable.
- Experience in Renewable Energy (Solar/Wind) mandatory for preference.
Technical Competencies/ Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of HSSE laws, environmental regulations, and statutory guidelines.
- Expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, emergency response, and incident investigation.
- Experience with safety management systems (SMS), ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 frameworks.
- Knowledge of construction safety, electrical safety, working-at-height standards, lifting operations, and heavy equipment safety in renewable projects.
- Strong experience managing EPC/OEM contractors and ensuring contractual HSSE compliance.
- Ability to analyze safety performance trends and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Understanding of environmental compliance, waste management, biodiversity control, and ESG‑aligned safety practices.
