About MexicolaMexicola is a contemporary fashion and lifestyle brand inspired by tropical destinations, artisanal craftsmanship and effortless resort living. Our aesthetic combines vibrant colours, playful prints, handcrafted embellishments and modern bohemian luxury.

We are looking for a creative and technically capable Handbag and Accessories Designer who can translate Mexicola’s distinctive visual identity into original, functional and commercially relevant products.

Role OverviewThe Handbag and Accessories Designer will be responsible for designing and developing collections from initial research and concept creation through sampling and production handover.

The role will include designing handbags and fashion accessories such as totes, shoulder bags, crossbody bags, clutches, pouches, wallets, travel accessories, bag charms, keychains and other seasonal products.

The candidate should have a strong understanding of bag construction, materials, trims, hardware, embellishment techniques, functionality and production processes. They must be able to manage each product from concept to final approval while maintaining Mexicola’s quality and design standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesTrend Research and Concept Development

- Research international and Indian trends in handbags, accessories, resort fashion, colour, materials and craftsmanship.
- Study competitor brands, emerging designers, customer preferences and market opportunities.
- Develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, colour palettes, material stories and product directions.
- Translate the Chief of Design’s creative vision into cohesive and commercially viable collections.
- Ensure that every product remains consistent with Mexicola’s tropical, artisanal and luxury-resort aesthetic.
- Present fresh product ideas, shapes, details and techniques for each collection.

Handbag and Accessories Design
- Design original handbags across categories such as totes, shoulder bags, crossbody bags, clutches, bucket bags, pouches, wallets and travel accessories.
- Develop fashion accessories such as bag charms, keychains, straps and other complementary products.
- Create detailed hand sketches, digital illustrations and technical flat drawings.
- Develop product shapes, proportions, compartments, closures, handles, straps and functional features.
- Design surface details such as prints, embroideries, beadwork, appliqué, patchwork, crochet, weaving, quilting and trims.
- Create multiple colourways and material combinations for selected designs.
- Balance creativity, functionality, durability, price positioning and commercial appeal.

Technical Design and Documentation
- Prepare complete tech packs containing technical drawings, dimensions, construction details, materials, hardware, trims and finishing instructions.
- Create detailed front, back, side, base and interior views of each product.
- Specify handle drops, strap lengths, pocket placements, closure mechanisms, logo placements and hardware measurements.
- Prepare bill of materials and product-development sheets.
- Provide clear artwork, Pantone references, embroidery layouts and placement instructions.
- Maintain accurate records of designs, colourways, materials, samples, approvals and revisions.
- Update collection line sheets and product-development trackers regularly.

Materials, Trims and Hardware




- Research and source suitable fabrics, leathers, vegan alternatives, canvas, raffia, jute, woven materials, linings and other materials.
- Develop and select hardware such as buckles, zippers, hooks, rings, chains, magnetic closures, feet and logo plates.
- Source trims, tapes, cords, fringes, tassels and embellishment materials.
- Ensure that selected materials meet the required standards for quality, durability, functionality and cost.
- Coordinate with vendors to develop customised materials, hardware and trims where required.
- Maintain an organised material, trim and hardware library.

Print, Embroidery and Surface Development
- Develop original prints, placement artworks and surface-design concepts for handbags and accessories.
- Create or coordinate embroidery, beadwork, appliqué and other handcrafted embellishment layouts.
- Prepare accurate colour references, motif sizes and placement specifications.
- Review strike-offs, embroidery swatches, beading samples and material trials.
- Provide clear correction comments and ensure that approved surface details are accurately reproduced.

Sampling and Product Development
- Coordinate with pattern makers, sample makers, merchandisers and vendors to develop prototypes and samples.
- Review handbag patterns, proportions, construction, functionality and finishing.
- Evaluate sample size, weight, opening, storage capacity, strap comfort and overall usability.
- Check stitching, lining, reinforcement, edge finishing, closures and hardware quality.
- Compare samples with approved sketches, tech packs, materials and reference images.
- Conduct sample-review meetings and provide detailed correction comments.
- Follow every style through prototype, revised sample, pre-production sample and final approval.
- Ensure that all corrections are implemented before production.

Collection Planning and Coordination
- Work with the Chief of Design to prepare seasonal range plans and development calendars.
- Plan a balanced assortment across categories, sizes, shapes, materials, colours and price points.
- Coordinate handbag and accessory collections with Mexicola’s apparel collections.
- Manage multiple products and development timelines simultaneously.
- Coordinate with merchandising, sourcing, production, quality and marketing teams.
- Follow up proactively on materials, artworks, samples, costing and approvals.
- Identify and communicate potential delays or quality concerns at an early stage.

Costing and Commercial Awareness
- Design products according to the brand’s target price points and customer profile.
- Work with merchandising and production teams to review product costing.
- Suggest suitable materials or construction modifications when required to meet cost targets.
- Make value-engineering recommendations without compromising the overall design language or perceived quality.
- Understand minimum order quantities, material consumption and production feasibility.
- Use sales feedback and product performance to improve future collections.

Production and Quality Support
- Ensure that bulk production follows approved samples and technical specifications.




- Review production samples and flag deviations in construction, colour, materials, hardware or embellishments.
- Work with production and quality teams to resolve design-related issues.
- Ensure consistency in product dimensions, workmanship, finishing and functionality.
- Maintain Mexicola’s quality standards throughout the production process.

Shoot and Launch Support
- Assist with product selection and styling for campaign, catalogue and e-commerce shoots.
- Prepare product details, styling references and collection notes for the content team.
- Ensure that samples required for shoots, presentations and launches are complete and approved.
- Support the development of lookbooks, line sheets, product presentations and launch materials.
- Collaborate with the apparel and marketing teams to present a cohesive brand story.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accessory Design, Fashion Design, Leather Goods Design, Lifestyle Product Design or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in handbags and accessories.
- Experience working with a fashion, lifestyle, export or design-led brand is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of handbag construction, materials, trims, hardware and manufacturing processes.
- Experience creating detailed tech packs and coordinating with sampling teams.
- Understanding of embroidery, beadwork, print and handcrafted surface-development techniques.
- Familiarity with both textile-based and structured handbags will be an advantage.

Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong sketching and technical flat-drawing skills.
- Ability to create accurate handbag specifications and construction details.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with 3D product-design software or Procreate will be an advantage.
- Ability to prepare print-ready artworks and skilled presentation boards.

The candidate should be comfortable working closely with the Chief of Design, taking feedback positively and independently managing each product through the complete development process.
