About the role

GreyOrange is looking for a Graduate Engineer Trainee – Firmware Quality Assurance to support embedded firmware validation and quality assurance for robotic systems.

The role involves working closely with Firmware, Electronics, Software, Product Engineering, and Quality teams to identify and resolve firmware issues before Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) and customer deployment.

We are looking for a hands-on engineer with a robust interest in embedded systems, robotics, firmware testing, debugging, communication protocols, and quality engineering. The candidate will be involved in validating firmware on robots, controllers, sensors, and VDA systems.

Key Responsibilities

Embedded Firmware Quality & Validation

- Test and validate embedded firmware releases before FAT and site deployment.
- Perform firmware-level checks on robots, controllers, sensors, and VDA systems.
- Identify firmware defects, reproduce issues, and provide clear debugging information to the Firmware team.
- Validate bug fixes and perform regression testing before firmware releases.
- Review firmware release and change logs and ensure that changes are adequately tested.

Embedded Debugging & Troubleshooting
- Debug firmware-related issues using logs, diagnostic tools, and communication interfaces.
- Support troubleshooting of CAN, UART, RS-232/RS-485, Ethernet, and other embedded communication protocols.
- Understand communication between controllers, sensors, motor drivers, and other robotic electronics.
- Support root-cause analysis to determine whether issues are related to firmware, electronics, communication, or software.

- Perform remote debugging and embedded-level checks on VDA and robotic systems.

FAT & Robot Validation
- Support Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) and internal robot testing from a firmware quality perspective.
- Ensure firmware is adequately validated before robots are released for FAT.
- Create firmware test cases, checklists, and regression test plans.
- Track firmware defects through closure and verify fixes.
- Contribute towards achieving zero firmware-related defects during FAT.

Quality & Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with Firmware, Electronics, Software, Product Engineering, and Quality teams.
- Support CAPA and root-cause analysis for firmware-related field issues.
- Analyze recurring firmware failures and recommend preventive actions.
- Maintain defect trackers, test results, logs, and firmware validation reports.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized institute.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in embedded systems, firmware testing, quality assurance, or related areas.

- Fresh graduates with strong academic projects or internships in embedded systems may also be considered.
- Good understanding of microcontrollers, embedded systems, and firmware architecture.
- Basic programming knowledge in C/C++.
- Understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, RS-232/RS-485, and Ethernet.
- Ability to read basic electronic schematics and understand sensors, controllers, and interfaces.
- Exposure to robotics, AMRs, AGVs, automotive ECUs, or industrial automation is preferred.

Required Skills & Tools
- Hands-on approach to embedded firmware testing, troubleshooting, and debugging.
- Ability to analyze logs, firmware versions, communication errors, and test results.
- Familiarity with debugging and testing tools such as:
- CAN analyzers
- Serial terminals
- Debuggers
- Oscilloscopes
- Logic analyzers

- Basic understanding of quality and problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, CAPA, root-cause analysis, and validation testing.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with JIRA or other defect tracking systems is an advantage.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.

Travel & Work Expectations
- Willingness to travel to supplier locations, GreyOrange facilities, and customer sites based on business requirements.
- Comfortable working with global and cross-functional teams across different time zones.
- Willingness to participate in hands-on robot testing, firmware validation, troubleshooting, and plant activities.
