Purpose - Why does this role exist?
To support geological and geotechnical engineering activities for Hydro and Pumped Storage
Projects (PSP) at JSW Energy by leading geological investigations, reviewing geological designs and reports, supporting underground and surface structure design, managing consultant deliverables, identifying geological risks, and providing technical inputs throughout project development and execution stages.

Key Result Areas (Key Performance Indicators)
Geological Investigations & Assessments
- · Review and coordinate geological and geotechnical investigations for Hydro and PSP
projects.
- · Ensure timely completion and review of drilling, mapping, trenching, permeability
testing, geophysical surveys, and laboratory testing activities.
- · Validate geological models and interpretations for project planning and design.
Engineering Geology & Geotechnical Review
- · Review geological inputs for:
o Dams and Reservoir Areas o Spillways and Surface Structures o Intake & Outlet Structures o Head Race Tunnels (HRT)
o Tail Race Tunnels (TRT)
o Surge Shafts o Pressure Shafts o Underground Powerhouses o Transformer Caverns and Associated Underground Works
- · Evaluate rock mass classification and support measures.
- · Review foundation conditions and slope stability assessments.
Risk Identification & Mitigation
- · Identify geological and geotechnical risks impacting project safety, schedule, and cost.
· Recommend mitigation measures for adverse geological conditions. · Support implementation of risk management and monitoring plans. Design Support & Optimization · Provide geological inputs for design optimization and value engineering initiatives. · Support selection of alignments, excavation methodologies, and support systems. · Review constructability aspects from a geological perspective. Consultant & Stakeholder Coordination · Coordinate with geology, geotechnical, civil, hydro-mechanical, and electro-mechanical consultants. · Review geological reports, design basis reports, and recommendations. · Support project teams by providing technical clarifications and recommendations. Documentation & Reporting · Review and maintain: o Geological Investigation Reports o Geotechnical Reports o Design Basis Reports (DBR) o Geological Risk Assessment Reports o Construction Geology Reports · Maintain investigation records, technical correspondence, and geological databases. Regulatory & Technical Compliance · Ensure compliance with applicable geological, dam safety, and hydropower guidelines. · Support interactions with regulatory agencies, expert review panels, and technical committees.
Educational Background and Work Experience
Educational Background
- · M.Sc./M.Tech in Geology, Applied Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical
Engineering or equivalent (Mandatory)
- · Specialization in Engineering Geology/Rock Mechanics preferred Work Experience · 10-15 years of experience in Geological and Geotechnical Engineering. · Experience in Hydropower Projects, Pumped Storage Projects (PSP), Large Dams, Tunnels, Underground Caverns, or Infrastructure Projects. · Exposure to geological investigation planning, interpretation, construction geology, and multidisciplinary engineering environments. · Experience in consultant management and technical review of geological studies preferred.
