General Manager Food Business

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented General Manager to lead and manage the overall business operations of the food manufacturing/food business. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in business operations, production, sales, quality control, supply chain, people management, and customer satisfaction.

The candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end operations while ensuring high standards of food safety, hygiene, quality, productivity, cost control, customer service, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business & Operations Management

- Take overall responsibility for day-to-day business and operational activities.
- Develop and implement business strategies to achieve revenue, profitability, and growth objectives.
- Monitor operational performance through KPIs, MIS, budgets, and regular reviews.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate effectively across Production, Sales, Quality, Stores, Purchase, Finance, and Administration.

2. Production Management

- Oversee production planning, scheduling, productivity, and timely order execution.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machinery, raw materials, and other resources.
- Monitor production targets, wastage, yield, downtime, and production costs.
- Ensure adherence to production standards, SOPs, and operational procedures.

3. Quality & Food Safety

- Ensure consistent product quality and compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
- Work closely with the Quality team to maintain required standards and specifications.
- Monitor quality issues, customer complaints, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, statutory,



and regulatory requirements.

4. Sales & Customer Management

- Drive sales growth and achievement of business targets.
- Develop strong relationships with key customers, distributors, retailers, and business partners.
- Understand market trends, customer requirements, and competitive activities.
- Ensure timely resolution of customer complaints and maintain high customer satisfaction.

5. Supply Chain, Purchase & Stores

- Oversee procurement, inventory management, stores, logistics, and distribution activities.
- Ensure timely availability of raw materials and packaging materials.
- Optimize inventory levels and minimize wastage, shortages, and excess stock.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and timely deliveries.

6. Cost & Profitability Management

- Monitor overall operating costs and identify areas for cost optimization.
- Control production, procurement, manpower, logistics, and overhead costs.
- Monitor margins, profitability, wastage, and resource utilization.
- Support management in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

7. Team Leadership & People Management

- Lead, motivate, and develop cross-functional teams.
- Set clear performance objectives and monitor individual/team performance.
- Build a culture of accountability, discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Identify training and development requirements for employees.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and workplace practices.

8. Compliance & Administration





- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, labour, food safety, health & safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation, records, SOPs, and operational reports.
- Coordinate with management on audits, inspections, certifications, and compliance matters.

Candidate Profile
- Graduate/Postgraduate in Food Technology, Food Science, Business Management, Operations, or a related discipline.
- 1218+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the food manufacturing, FMCG, packaged food, bakery, snacks, or allied food industry.
- Strong hands-on experience in overall business/plant operations.
- Proven experience managing Production, Sales, Quality, Supply Chain, Stores, Purchase, and large teams.
- Strong commercial understanding with experience in P&L;, budgeting, costing, and profitability management.
- Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene, quality systems, SOPs, and statutory compliance.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Should be commercially driven, result-oriented, and capable of independently managing the business.

Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in FMCG / Food Manufacturing / Packaged Foods / Bakery / Snacks / Ready-to-Eat / Food Processing will be preferred.
