About Silkgrove:

Silkgrove is a cozy open-world RPG about exploration, restoration, and rebuilding a world after a war between humans and machines.

Our references include My Time at Portia and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, particularly in how they approach exploration, player freedom, progression, and world interaction.

What we are looking for:

We're not focused purely on years of experience. 2+ years of qualified Game Design experience is preferred, but we're also open to early-career candidates who have strong practical work, projects, or portfolios demonstrating their ability.

More importantly, we're looking for someone genuinely interested in the type of game we're making.

Who enjoys narrative-driven, story-focused, and exploration-heavy games and understands what makes these experiences work.

Since we're a small team, we're looking for someone whose primary focus is Game Design and Level Design, but who is also willing to contribute to other areas of the game when possible and when their skills can help.

Responsibilities:

- Design and refine gameplay systems, progression, quests, and player experiences
- Design open-world levels, exploration routes, points of interest, and player flow
- Work on level layouts, pacing, traversal, moment-to-moment gameplay, and player guidance
- Connect level design with quests, narrative,

and worldbuilding
- Create and maintain GDDs and level design documentation
- Prototype and iterate on gameplay mechanics and systems
- Playtest the game and use feedback to improve the player experience
- Balance progression, rewards, resources and difficulty
- Work closely with programmers, artists, narrative and other disciplines
- Take ownership of design decisions and follow them through implementation
- Contribute to other areas of development when your skills can help the team

Requirements:

- 2+ years of professional Game Design experience preferred
- Strong experience or portfolio demonstrating Level Design
- Good understanding of gameplay, player experience, and game design fundamentals
- Experience designing levels with exploration, pacing, player guidance, and world interaction
- Understanding of progression, systems and balancing
- Strong playtesting and iteration skills
- Genuine interest in narrative-driven and story-focused games
- Ability to understand and work within an established game vision
- Ability to take ownership of design decisions
- Comfortable working independently in a small team
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Experienced in Unreal Engine 5

Good to Have:

- Experience with open-world games
- RPG, adventure, cozy, simulation, sandbox, survival/crafting, or similar experience
- Experience with narrative design or environmental storytelling
- Experience designing levels with verticality, varied landscapes, and exploration

- Gameplay prototyping or implementation experience
- Experience working in a small or indie development team
- Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints or gameplay implementation experience

Early-career candidates are welcome to apply if they have strong relevant projects, portfolios, or shipped work that demonstrate the above skills.

Who we are looking for:

- We're not just looking for someone who can fill a Game Designer position. We're looking for someone who is genuinely excited about making this kind of game and wants to grow with the project.
- Silkgrove is being developed by a small team, so we need someone who can stay focused on their core responsibilities while also being flexible enough to contribute to other areas of the game when needed.
- We value people who are curious, proactive, collaborative, and willing to take ownership, rather than simply completing assigned tasks.

The project is currently in Pre-Alpha, and the next stage will involve significant gameplay, level design, content development, and iteration. This is an opportunity to have a meaningful influence on how Silkgrove develops.

About the Role:

Position: Game Designer

Project: Silkgrove

Employment: Full-time

Location: Fully Remote, India

Team: Gallic Entertainment

Engine: Unreal Engine 5

Why Join Us?

You'll play a meaningful role in shaping the gameplay of Silkgrove from Pre-Alpha through release. As part of a small team, you'll work directly with the Team Leads and have substantial ownership over the game's systems, gameplay, progression, and overall player experience.

- To apply: Please share your CV, portfolio, and details of the games you have shipped. A playable portfolio or examples of your design work are highly appreciated.
- Email: [email protected]
- Open to a design test after selection
