About the Client

Our client is a US-based healthcare technology startup founded by Harvard Business School alumni. The team is building a modern healthcare product for the US market and is looking for strong full stack developers who can take ownership of features end to end — from design discussions through production deployment — and grow with the product.

Role Summary

You will work directly with the client founding team as a core engineer on the product. You will design, build, and ship features in a quick-paced manner across the frontend, backend, and data layers, and help accelerate the engineering practices of an early-stage product. Familiarity with the US healthcare ecosystem — its data standards, integrations, and compliance expectations — will let you contribute from day one.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain product features across the full stack — frontend, backend APIs, and database.
- Translate product requirements into clean, well-tested, production-ready code.
- Build and consume REST/GraphQL APIs and third-party integrations, including healthcare data sources where applicable.
- Handle sensitive data responsibly — apply secure coding practices and privacy-by-design principles throughout.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions; contribute to technical decisions as the product scales.
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and cloud deployments.
- Collaborate closely with US-based founders and stakeholders through demos, standups, and async updates.

Core Requirements

- 4-5+ years of hands-on full stack development experience on production web applications.
- Expertise in a modern frontend framework — React/Next.js, Vue, or Angular — with strong JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals.
- Strong backend skills in at least one of: Node.js, Python (Django/FastAPI), Java/Kotlin, or .NET.
- Solid command of relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and data modeling; exposure to NoSQL is a plus.

- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization, and CI/CD workflows.
- Strong grasp of authentication, authorization, and application security fundamentals.
- Comfortable owning features end to end in a fast-moving, early-stage product environment.

AI-Native Engineering

We want engineers who treat AI as a core part of how they build software:

- Strong, daily use of AI coding tools — e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor — across the development workflow: writing, debugging, refactoring, test generation, and documentation.
- Sound judgment with AI-generated code — reviewing, testing, and hardening it to production standards rather than shipping it blindly.
- Experience building AI-powered product features — LLM APIs (Anthropic/OpenAI), prompt design, RAG, or agentic workflows — is a strong plus.

Strongly Preferred — US Healthcare Experience

Candidates with hands-on exposure to US healthcare products will be given robust preference:

- Experience building or maintaining products for the US healthcare market (providers, payers, digital health, or telehealth).
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and handling of PHI — audit logging, encryption, access controls, BAAs.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards: FHIR, HL7 v2, CCD/C-CDA.
- Integration experience with EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, eclinical works, Oracle Health/Cerner, Athenahealth) or health data platforms.
- Exposure to claims, eligibility, billing/RCM, or payer data workflows (X12 EDI 837/835/270-271 a plus).

Nice to Have

- Experience at an early-stage startup or as one of the first engineers on a product.
- Exposure to analytics or data pipelines in production.
- Experience with SOC 2 or similar compliance environments.

What We Look For Beyond Code

- Excellent written and spoken English; clear, proactive communication with a distributed team.
- Ownership mindset — comfortable with ambiguity, able to break down loosely defined problems.
- Reliability in async work: crisp updates, realistic estimates, and follow-through.
