About the Role
Must-Have
- 4+ years of experience managing Linux-based edge device fleets.
- Hands-on experience with fleet management tools like BalenaCloud, balenaCLI, metropolis and container-based deployments.
- Solid experience with Docker containers and Docker Compose.
- CI/CD pipeline implementation using tools such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
- Container image build, optimization, and deployment practices.
- Version control using Git.
- Strong Linux administration skills (Ubuntu, Debian, Raspberry Pi OS).
- Device troubleshooting, remote diagnostics, and log analysis.
- Shell scripting (Bash).
- Network configuration and security for remote edge devices.
- Python for automation, deployment tools, and monitoring.
- API integration and automation scripting.
Good-to-Have
- Experience integrating edge devices with cloud platforms such as: Azure IoT, AWS IoT, Google Cloud IoT.
- Understanding of VPNs, firewalls, proxies, and secure communications.
- Familiarity with MQTT, REST APIs, WebSockets.
- Air-gapped/offline deployment strategies.
- Kubernetes/K3s at the edge.
- Device security, certificate management, and secure boot.
- Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
- Experience with ARM-based devices (Raspberry Pi, Jetson, etc..).
Responsibilities
- Provision, configure, and onboard edge devices into BalenaCloud fleets.
- Manage device lifecycle activities including registration, updates, maintenance, and decommissioning.
- Deploy and monitor containerized applications across distributed edge device fleets.
- Configure fleet-wide environment variables, device settings, and application releases.
- Plan and execute OTA (Over-the-Air) software and firmware updates with minimal operational disruption.
