We’re looking for a hands-on Construction Finance & Accounting Specialist to support the day-to-day financial operations of U.S./Canadian construction businesses and real estate development projects.
This is not a senior finance leadership or strategic finance role. The ideal candidate should be directly involved in project accounting, job costing, AP/AR, WIP, reconciliations, and construction-related financial operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage project-level accounting and job costing, including budget vs. actuals and variance tracking.
- Prepare and maintain WIP schedules and monthly financial reports.
- Handle AP/AR, invoice processing, subcontractor/vendor payments, and reconciliations.
- Support monthly bookkeeping and close activities.
- Work closely with project managers and construction teams to track project costs and financial performance.
- Assist with construction loan draws and project financial documentation.
- Maintain accurate project and financial records and identify discrepancies.
- Support reporting and improve day-to-day accounting processes and workflows.
- Work with construction and accounting systems to ensure accurate flow of project financial data.
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
- Direct experience working with U.S. or Canadian construction companies — mandatory.
- Hands-on experience in construction accounting or project finance.
- Strong experience with job costing, project accounting, WIP reporting, AP/AR, vendor and subcontractor payments, reconciliations, and monthly bookkeeping.
- Experience working directly with project managers and construction operations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced workplace.
SYSTEMS EXPERIENCE
Experience with construction/accounting platforms such as:
- Procore
- Sage 300 / Timberline
- CMiC
- Viewpoint
- QuickBooks
- Similar construction ERPs/accounting systems
IDEAL CANDIDATE
We’re looking for someone who is hands-on and execution-focused, rather than someone whose experience is primarily in managing finance teams or overseeing financial strategy.
- Candidates should be comfortable getting into the details of project finances and handling the day-to-day accounting work themselves.
