About MexicolaMexicola is a contemporary fashion and lifestyle brand inspired by tropical destinations, artisanal craftsmanship and effortless resort living. Our aesthetic combines vibrant prints, relaxed silhouettes, handcrafted details and modern bohemian luxury. We are looking for a talented Apparel Designer who can translate this distinctive vision into original, commercially relevant collections.

Role OverviewThe Fashion Designer – Apparel will be responsible for designing and developing apparel collections for Mexicola, from initial research and concept development through sampling and production handover.

The candidate should have a strong understanding of women’s resortwear, prints, fabrics, garment construction, fit and surface techniques. The role requires creativity, technical knowledge, commercial awareness and the ability to manage multiple styles and development timelines simultaneously.

Key ResponsibilitiesTrend Research and Concept Development

- Research Indian and international fashion, resortwear, colour, fabric, print and silhouette trends.
- Study competitor brands, customer preferences and emerging market opportunities.
- Develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, colour palettes, print directions and collection stories.
- Translate the Chief of Design’s creative vision into cohesive and commercially viable collections.
- Maintain Mexicola’s distinctive design identity across every collection.

Apparel Design
- Design original apparel across categories such as dresses, kaftans, co-ord sets, tops, shirts, skirts, trousers, jumpsuits and occasion-resortwear.
- Create detailed hand sketches and digital fashion illustrations.
- Develop silhouettes, colourways, prints, embroideries, embellishments and placement artworks.
- Design collections that balance creativity, wearability, price positioning and commercial potential.
- Adapt designs for different seasons, occasions and customer requirements.
- Ensure that every style reflects Mexicola’s elevated, artisanal and tropical-luxury aesthetic.

Print and Surface Development
- Develop original print concepts, placement artworks and seamless repeat patterns.
- Coordinate with graphic and textile designers for print development and colour separations.
- Explore embroidery, beadwork, appliqué, lace, crochet, trims and other handcrafted surface techniques.
- Prepare accurate artwork, Pantone references, print sizes and placement instructions.
- Review strike-offs, embroidery swatches and surface-development samples and provide corrections.

Technical Design and Documentation
- Prepare complete tech packs containing flat sketches,



measurements, construction details, fabric information, trims and finishing requirements.
- Create specification sheets, bill of materials and design-development sheets.
- Communicate garment-construction details clearly to pattern makers, sampling teams and vendors.
- Maintain accurate records of styles, colourways, fabrics, artworks, approvals and revisions.
- Update range plans, line sheets and collection-development trackers regularly.

Fabric and Trim Development
- Research and source suitable fabrics, linings, trims, buttons, laces and other materials.
- Work closely with the sourcing and merchandising teams to select materials that meet design, quality, cost and delivery requirements.
- Develop new fabrics, prints, washes and textures with mills and vendors where required.
- Ensure that selected fabrics are suitable for the garment’s silhouette, drape, fit and intended use.

Sampling and Fit
- Coordinate with pattern masters, tailors and sampling teams to develop prototypes and samples.
- Conduct regular fittings and evaluate garment fit, proportion, construction, comfort and finishing.
- Provide clear sample comments and ensure that required corrections are implemented.
- Compare samples with approved sketches, prints and specifications to maintain design accuracy.
- Follow styles through all stages, including first sample, fit sample, size set, pre-production sample and final approval.
- Resolve design and construction issues during sampling and production.

Collection Planning and Coordination
- Work with the Chief of Design to create seasonal range plans and collection calendars.
- Plan an appropriate balance of categories, silhouettes, prints, colours and price points.
- Manage multiple designs and development deadlines simultaneously.
- Coordinate with graphic designers, merchandisers, sourcing teams, production teams and external vendors.
- Follow up proactively on fabrics, artworks, samples, approvals and production requirements.
- Highlight delays or quality concerns before they affect the collection launch.

Production and Quality Support
- Ensure that final production matches approved designs, colours, fabrics, prints and samples.
- Support the production and quality teams in resolving design-related issues.
- Review initial production pieces and flag any deviations from the approved specifications.
- Ensure consistency in sizing, fit, finishing and overall product quality.




- Suggest design modifications when necessary without compromising the original concept.

Shoots and Brand Presentation
- Assist with styling and product selection for campaign, catalogue and e-commerce shoots.
- Prepare garment details, styling references and collection notes for the content team.
- Support the development of lookbooks, line sheets, product presentations and launch materials.
- Collaborate with marketing and e-commerce teams to communicate each collection’s design story accurately.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Apparel Design or a related field.
- 2–3 years of professional experience in apparel design.
- Experience in women’s contemporary fashion, resortwear, occasionwear or a design-led fashion brand is preferred.
- Strong understanding of fabrics, garment construction, pattern making, fit and production processes.
- Experience creating detailed tech packs and coordinating with sampling teams.
- Knowledge of prints, embroidery, embellishment and surface-development techniques.

Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong fashion illustration and technical flat-sketching skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with CLO 3D, Procreate or other design software will be an advantage.
- Ability to prepare print-ready artworks and professional presentation boards.
