Exercise Physiologist / Sport Scientist
Company - https://www.cent.health/
About the Role
Cent is looking for an Exercise Physiologist / Sport Scientist to lead physiological testing and functional performance assessments for our clients and athletes. You will design, administer, and interpret a battery of evidence-based tests — including cardiorespiratory (VO2 max), strength, and force-based assessments — and translate the data into clear, actionable programming recommendations. This role sits at the intersection of applied sport science and hands-on coaching, and is ideal for someone who is as comfortable running a lab protocol as they are explaining the results to a client.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, administer, and supervise exercise testing and functional assessment protocols, including VO2 max / cardiorespiratory fitness testing, grip strength testing (hand dynamometry), force–velocity and strength testing, and force plate / force frame assessments.
Calibrate, maintain, and operate laboratory and field-testing equipment (metabolic carts, dynamometers, force plates/force frames, HR and wearable monitoring systems) to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
Analyze and interpret test data to assess aerobic capacity, muscular strength, power output, movement asymmetries, and injury-risk indicators.
Translate assessment findings into individualized exercise prescriptions, training programs, and performance improvement plans for clients/athletes.
Communicate results clearly to clients, coaches, and other stakeholders through reports, dashboards, and in-person debriefs.
Maintain accurate, organized records of testing protocols, results, and client progress over time; track longitudinal trends.
Ensure all testing follows established safety protocols, informed consent procedures, and relevant health & safety standards.
Stay current with research and best practices in exercise physiology, sport science, and human performance testing, and recommend updates to protocols as the field evolves.
Support the onboarding and testing of new clients, including baseline assessments and periodic re-testing to track progress.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Solid working knowledge of exercise physiology principles and applied exercise testing methodology.
Hands-on experience with cardiorespiratory fitness / VO2 max testing (e.g., graded exercise tests, metabolic cart operation, gas exchange analysis).
Proficiency in functional and strength assessments, including grip strength (dynamometry), force–strength testing, and force plate / force frame–based assessments (e.g., isometric mid-thigh pull, jump testing, force-time curve analysis).
Ability to interpret physiological and biomechanical data and translate findings into practical, individualized recommendations.
Familiarity with data management tools/software used for storing and analyzing test results (spreadsheets, testing software, or performance dashboards).
Solid understanding of safety protocols, contraindications, and emergency procedures related to exercise testing.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical results to non-specialist clients.
Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Exercise Physiology, Sport Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Relevant certification preferred (e.g., ACSM, NSCA-CSCS, ESSA-accredited Exercise Physiologist/Scientist, or equivalent).
Prior experience conducting exercise testing and functional assessments in a lab, clinical, or high-performance sport setting is preferred.
What Cent Offers The opportunity to work in a hands-on, applied performance-science environment with access to modern testing equipment.
A collaborative, multidisciplinary team spanning coaching, physiotherapy, nutrition, and sport science.
Room to shape testing protocols and contribute to the growth of the performance program.
Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.
