Role Overview
ZEISS is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager – Cloud to lead teams developing Azure-based, enterprise-grade medical software. This role requires strong technical leadership, hands-on architectural understanding, and deep awareness of regulatory and security requirements in healthcare software.
The ideal candidate will balance delivery ownership, people leadership, and compliance-driven engineering, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions in regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivery Ownership:
Own end-to-end delivery of regulated medical software, ensuring adherence to timelines, quality, and compliance standards.
- Architecture & Design:
Guide teams in adopting enterprise design patterns, event-driven architectures, and microservices best practices.
- Cloud & Security Leadership:
Partner with architects to embed security-first practices including secure coding, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and compliance reporting throughout the SDLC.
- Compliance & Process Management:
Ensure alignment with regulatory standards such as ISO 13485, IEC 62304, FDA, HIPAA, and GDPR, maintaining proper documentation, traceability, and risk management.
- Technical Collaboration:
Translate high-level architectural designs into actionable engineering tasks while enforcing Azure cloud-native best practices.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Lead, mentor, and grow engineering teams across DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and event-streaming platforms.
- Risk Management:
Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to scalability, performance, security, and regulatory compliance.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong expertise in Java or .NET microservices
- Experience with Angular or React front-end technologies
- API-driven and cloud-native architecture experience
- Proven delivery of Azure-based enterprise applications
Required Skills & Experience
- 14+ years of total experience, including 3+ years in Engineering Management
- Strong background in Java/.NET microservices and modern front-end frameworks
- Hands-on understanding of event-streaming platforms (Kafka, Azure Event Hub, Azure Service Bus)
- Experience delivering solutions in regulated industries
- Strong knowledge of design patterns, secure SDLC, and compliance-driven delivery
- Expertise in Agile/Scrum methodologies and managing distributed teams
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Exposure to compliance documentation and risk management in regulated environments
- Experience working with global teams
- Prior experience in medical or healthcare software development
