We are looking for an experienced Engineering Designer specializing in automotive jigs, fixtures, and conveyor systems. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize robust manufacturing tooling and material handling equipment. You will collaborate closely with manufacturing, automation, and project management teams to deliver high-precision, production-ready designs that meet strict automotive standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Tooling & Fixture Design: Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings for body-in-white (BIW) jigs, welding fixtures, assembly fixtures, and checking gauges. •Conveyor & Material Handling Design: Design industrial conveyor systems (e.g., roller, belt, chain, overhead/skillet systems) tailored for automotive assembly lines. •Kinematics & Ergonomics: Perform mechanical calculations, load/stress analyses, stroke checks, and ergonomic evaluations for manual and automated stations. •Tolerance & Precision: Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;) according to ASME Y14.5 or ISO standards to ensure accurate build and alignment. •BOM & Documentation: Generate complete Bills of Materials (BOM), buy-off documentation,
user manuals, and maintenance guides. •DFM & DFA: Implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to minimize production costs and cycle times. •Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside controls engineers, robotics specialists, and shop-floor teams during assembly, commissioning, and buy-off phases.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelors degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field. •Experience: 3+ years of direct experience designing jigs, fixtures, and conveyor systems within the automotive industry. •CAD Proficiency: Mastery in 3D CAD software such SolidWorks. •Technical Expertise: Robust understanding of GD&T;, pneumatics, hydraulics, motor sizing, and structural steel fabrication techniques. •Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiarity with machining, welding processes (MIG/TIG/Spot), laser cutting, and sheet metal fabrication. •Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot design issues during build-up and tryout phases
