The Role
Accounting & Controllership
- Lead end-to-end accounting and financial reporting for payment aggregation, acquiring, issuing, merchant settlements, and fintech products.
- Ensure compliance with Ind AS, IFRS, Companies Act requirements, and internal accounting policies.
- Drive month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closure processes.
- Review revenue recognition, settlement accounting, liabilities, merchant payables, escrow balances, and related reconciliations.
- Establish strong financial controls and governance frameworks to support business growth.
- Partner with business, product, and technology teams to evaluate accounting implications of new products and initiatives.
Payments & Settlement Operations
- Own accounting and governance around payment transactions, merchant settlements, MDR revenue, interchange, bank charges, incentives, and refunds.
- Ensure accurate settlement lifecycle management across acquiring banks, payment gateways, networks, merchants, and partners.
- Oversee reconciliation of transaction data across systems, settlement reports, bank statements, and GL.
- Drive resolution of settlement exceptions, breaks, aged open items, and operational risks.
- Build scalable controls around high-volume transaction processing environments.
Regulatory Reporting & Compliance
- Lead regulatory reporting requirements applicable to Payment Aggregators, Payment Gateways, and other regulated fintech businesses.
- Drive compliance with RBI guidelines and reporting obligations.
- Coordinate with compliance, risk, legal, and business teams on regulatory requirements and audits.
- Support implementation and monitoring of regulatory changes and their financial reporting impact.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of regulatory reports and certifications.
Data Analytics, Automation & Process Transformation
- Lead finance transformation initiatives leveraging automation, analytics, AI, RPA, and advanced reconciliation tools.
- Manage large transaction datasets and derive actionable insights for business and finance leadership.
- Partner with technology teams to automate reconciliation, settlement, reporting, and control processes.
- Drive continuous process improvements resulting in enhanced controls, reduced manual effort, and faster closure cycles.
- Build scalable MIS and dashboarding frameworks for leadership reporting.
Audit & Risk Management
- Act as the primary finance lead for Statutory Audit, Internal Audit, Regulatory Audit, and Special Reviews.
- Manage auditor interactions and closure of audit observations.
- Strengthen financial controls and ensure readiness for regulatory inspections.
- Drive remediation of control gaps and monitor implementation of corrective actions.
- Build a strong culture of compliance, risk awareness, and accountability.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with Finance, Product, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Business teams.
- Present critical financial insights, control assessments, and regulatory updates to senior leadership.
- Support CFO organization in strategic initiatives, governance reviews, and board-level discussions.
- Influence cross-functional teams to deliver finance transformation objectives.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing finance and controllership teams.
- Build organizational capability in payments accounting, settlements, controls, and analytics.
- Establish performance metrics, career development plans, and succession pipelines.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
What matters in this role
Mandatory
- Chartered Accountant (CA).
- 12+ years of post-qualification experience.
- Significant experience in Fintech, Payment Aggregator, Payment Gateway, Banking, Cards, Digital Payments, Wallets, Merchant Acquiring, or Financial Services.
- Strong understanding of payment transaction lifecycle and settlement processes.
- Deep expertise in accounting, controllership, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
- Experience handling RBI-regulated environments and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Strong leadership experience managing large teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred
- Experience working in large-scale payment processing environments.
- Exposure to escrow management and merchant settlement ecosystems.
- Experience with finance automation, RPA, and reconciliation platforms.
- Knowledge of SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, Python, or similar analytical tools.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
