HR Director, India & Global Capability Centre

Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India

Department: People and Talent

Reports to: Chief People Officer (UK based)

Direct Reports: HR Manager and wider HR team of professionals

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced HR Director to provide strategic and operational leadership for our Bangalore office and Global Capability Centre. This is a senior leadership role responsible for building and leading the India people function, with the HR Manager reporting into this post and a wider HR team of four professionals supporting delivery across recruitment, HR operations, compliance, payroll governance, employee relations, engagement and people experience.

The HR Director will partner closely with the UK-based Chief People Officer to develop a more strategic and globally consistent people agenda. The role will translate global people priorities into the local India context, ensuring the Bangalore GCC can scale effectively while supporting the companys ambition to grow from a UK-headquartered start-up into a global business.

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Leadership, Team Management & Functional Strategy

- Lead the India People function as the senior HR leader for the Bangalore GCC, setting the direction, priorities and operating rhythm for the local HR team.
- Line manage the HR Manager, ensuring they are developed beyond operational delivery into a more strategic HR leadership role.
- Oversee a wider HR team of four professionals, ensuring effective delivery across talent acquisition, HR operations, compliance, employee relations, payroll governance, reporting and employee experience.
- Build capability within the HR team through coaching, mentoring, clear accountability, succession planning and exposure to strategic people projects.
- Ensure the HR function operates as a proactive, commercially minded and trusted partner to employees, managers, India leadership and the UK head office.

2. India HR Governance, Operations & Compliance

- Ensure full compliance with Indian labour laws and statutory regulations including:
- Shops & Establishments Act (Karnataka)

- Payment of Wages Act

- Minimum Wages Act

- Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF)

- Employees’ State Insurance (ESI)

- Payment of Bonus Act

- Payment of Gratuity Act

- Maternity Benefit Act

- Equal Remuneration Act
- POSH Act (Prevention of Sexual Harassment)

- Labour Welfare Fund (LWF)
- Maintain statutory registers, filings, and documentation.
- Coordinate with legal advisors and external consultants where required.
- Lead internal audits and prepare for labour inspections.
- Oversee employment contracts and policy documentation aligned with Indian legal standards.
- Provide senior oversight of India HR risk, ensuring local statutory requirements are met while maintaining alignment with UK head office governance standards.

3. Talent Strategy, Workforce Planning & GCC Growth

- Own the India talent strategy for the Bangalore GCC, ensuring hiring plans support current delivery requirements and future global growth.
- Partner with India leadership and the UK CPO to translate business strategy into workforce plans, organisational design and capability priorities.
- Ensure compliant, competitive and scalable recruitment processes, offer governance and employment documentation for the Indian market.
- Strengthen employer brand and talent attraction in Bangalore, positioning the company as an ambitious UK-headquartered global business.
- Support the set-up and growth of the Bangalore operation, ensuring hiring activity is compliant with healthcare, technology and local market requirements.
- Develop scalable workforce planning approaches that balance start-up pace, cost discipline, quality of talent, compliance and long-term global capability building.





4. Reward, Payroll & Compensation Governance

- Oversee payroll processing in compliance with Indian statutory requirements.
- Ensure timely EPF, ESI, TDS, and professional tax deductions and filings.
- Administer gratuity, bonus calculations, and leave encashments.
- Support CTC structuring aligned with Indian taxation norms.
- Work with the UK CPO to develop reward principles that are locally competitive in India while supporting the company’s broader global reward philosophy.

5. Employee Relations, Culture & Performance

- Provide senior oversight and escalation for complex employee relations matters, ensuring issues are resolved fairly, consistently and in line with Indian labour law.
- Lead the development of a high-performance culture across the Bangalore GCC, aligned to company values, UK head office expectations and the realities of the local India workplace.
- Embed performance management practices that build manager capability, support accountability and enable growth across a scaling organisation.
- Champion employee engagement, inclusion, wellbeing and retention strategies that are meaningful in the Indian talent market and consistent with the company’s global people agenda.

6. Global People Agenda, Policy & Governance

- Partner with the UK-based Chief People Officer to develop a globally consistent people agenda that supports the company’s growth ambitions while remaining adaptable to local employment contexts.
- Translate UK head office people strategy, values, governance and cultural expectations into practical India policies, processes and manager guidance.
- Ensure all India policies comply with Karnataka and central labour regulations, including statutory training and POSH governance requirements.
- Build policy and governance frameworks that can scale beyond India and support the company’s transition from start-up to global organisation.

7. Leadership Capability, Learning & Organisation Development

- Identify capability gaps across the Bangalore GCC and develop learning priorities that support business growth, manager effectiveness and future global scale.
- Support India leadership development, ensuring managers build the skills required to lead in a start-up, GCC and globally connected environment.
- Facilitate required statutory and conduct training, including POSH, Code of Conduct and other India-specific compliance requirements.
- Work with the UK CPO to develop consistent global leadership expectations, behaviours and people management standards.

8. People Analytics, Reporting & Strategic Insight

- Ensure HR systems, employee records and reporting processes are accurate, secure, compliant and fit for a growing global business.
- Develop people dashboards and leadership reporting covering hiring, attrition, engagement, performance, diversity, compliance, capability and organisational risk.
- Use data and insight to advise the UK CPO and India leadership on strategic people decisions, workforce investment and operational priorities.
- Establish reporting disciplines that provide visibility across the India GCC and can evolve into a global people reporting framework.

9. Strategic HR Leadership in a Start-Up, GCC and Global Growth Environment

- Partner with the UK-based Chief People Officer to shape and execute a global people strategy that supports international growth, operational scale and cultural alignment.




- Act as the senior India people leader, ensuring the Bangalore GCC is integrated into the wider business while remaining responsive to Indian employment law, culture, talent expectations and market dynamics.
- Create scalable HR processes, governance frameworks and leadership practices suitable for a start-up moving from founder-led ways of working to a structured global operating model.
- Advise senior leaders on organisation design, capability building, workforce planning, culture, engagement, change management and people risk as the business expands globally.
- Demonstrate the judgement, pace and resilience required to lead through ambiguity, build from first principles and create structure without slowing down commercial momentum.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.
- MBA / PGDM in HR preferred.
- 10–15+ years of progressive HR experience, including senior HR leadership experience in India.
- Strong working knowledge of Indian labour laws and statutory compliance.
- Experience handling payroll and compliance for Karnataka-based employees.
- Experience operating as a strategic HR leader in a high-growth organisation where people foundations, governance and leadership capability are being built alongside rapid delivery.
- Proven experience leading HR managers and multi-disciplinary HR teams, with the ability to develop operational HR leaders into strategic business partners.
- Experience partnering with overseas head office stakeholders, ideally in a UK-headquartered business, GCC, captive centre, multinational, start-up or scale-up environment.

Preferred Experience

- Experience in IT, technology, product, or multinational environments.
- Previous experience building HR infrastructure in a start-up, scale-up or newly established Global Capability Centre.
- Experience leading HR for a growing employee base, ideally within India, a start-up, scale-up, GCC or globalising organisation.
- Experience contributing to global people strategy, operating model design or international HR integration would be advantageous.
- Exposure to labour law transitions under the current Labour Codes (if implemented).
- Experience managing third-party payroll vendors.

- The HR Director is viewed as a trusted strategic partner by the UK CPO, India leadership team, employees and external partners, with clear influence on global people priorities.
