Purpose of the Role

The role is responsible for leading the plant's Operations Quality support functions with a focus on Material Engineering, Laboratory Operations, Failure Analysis, Metrology, Calibration Management, Quality Systems Governance, and Continuous Quality Improvement.

The incumbent will drive quality excellence across manufacturing operations by ensuring robust material testing, product compliance, measurement system integrity, regulatory adherence, customer satisfaction, and deployment of world-class quality practices.

The role will also be accountable for NABL laboratory operations, metallurgical and polymer testing, calibration systems, IATF 16949 compliance, deviation management, and quality capability enhancement across the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Material Testing & Failure Analysis

- Lead metallurgical, polymer, chemical and fluid testing activities for manufacturing operations.
- Drive material characterization, microstructural evaluation, mechanical property testing and failure investigations.
- Conduct root cause analysis for field failures, warranty issues, manufacturing defects and customer complaints.
- Provide technical recommendations for material selection, surface protection systems, coatings and process improvements.

Laboratory Management

- Manage NABL-accredited laboratory operations and ensure compliance with applicable testing standards and quality requirements.
- Establish and maintain testing methodologies, laboratory controls and validation systems.
- Drive continual improvement in laboratory capability, testing efficiency and technical competency.

Metrology & Calibration

- Ensure effective calibration and upkeep of gauges, measuring equipment, inspection instruments and fixtures.
- Strengthen Measurement System Analysis (MSA) practices to ensure accuracy and reliability of inspection systems.
- Drive measurement capability improvements aligned with IATF 16949 and quality standards.

Quality Systems & Compliance

- Govern and sustain IATF 16949 requirements across all plant functions.
- Lead internal audits, process audits, product audits and compliance assessments.
- Drive deviation management, corrective actions and preventive actions across the plant.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, statutory and customer-specific requirements.

Customer Quality & Problem Solving

- Lead customer complaint resolution through structured methodologies such as 8D,



RCA and Six Sigma.
- Drive warranty reduction initiatives and customer satisfaction improvement programs.
- Support cross-functional teams in resolving critical quality concerns through data-driven decision making.

Quality Improvement & Excellence

- Deploy TQM/WCQ principles across manufacturing operations.
- Lead breakthrough quality improvement projects utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Monitor plant quality KPIs and initiate actions to improve process capability and product quality.
- Drive Quality Month and quality culture initiatives across the plant.

Cross Functional Leadership

- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Purchase, Supplier Quality, Maintenance and Production functions.
- Support supplier quality improvement and technical problem-solving activities.
- Mentor and develop quality teams to build future leadership capability.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education

- B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering or Materials Engineering.

Experience

- 16-20 years of relevant experience in Automotive Manufacturing Quality.
- Experience in Material Testing, Metallurgical Analysis, Polymer Testing and Failure Analysis.
- Experience managing NABL-accredited laboratories, Metrology or Material Engineering functions.
- Exposure to Calibration Systems, Measurement System Analysis and Testing Compliance.
- Strong experience in Quality Management Systems, Customer Quality and Continuous Improvement.

- Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt
- Internal Auditor / Lead Auditor - IATF 16949
- ISO 17025 Internal Auditor
- Quality Management System Certifications
