Position Title: Manager – Electrical Design, Transformers

1. Job Purpose The Transformer Design Manager (Electrical) is responsible for leading the design and development of Power, Distribution, SCOTT-T, Converter duty and special-purpose transformers. The role involves managing a team of design engineers, ensuring technical compliance with customer specifications and international standards, optimizing product cost and performance, and supporting cross-functional teams throughout project execution.

The role is critical in establishing design validation systems, ensuring manufacturability, and driving continuous improvement from concept to product release. A key focus is on reducing design-related failures, enabling cost-effective designs, and fostering strong collaboration between design, production, and quality functions.

This also includes order booking support and enquiry handling. Customers connect for special technical requirement

2. Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all quality aspects of transformer design, from concept evaluation to final design approval.

Establish and enforce Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IEC/IS/IEEE standards, and customer specifications during the design stage.

Review and validate design calculations, drawings, BOM’s and specifications to ensure accuracy, reliability, and safety.

Work closely with Production, Supplier Quality, and After-Sales to integrate feedback into future designs and prevent recurring issues.

Lead resolution of design-related customer complaints with RCA and effective CAPA implementation.

Promote automation, digital simulation, and advanced modelling techniques for design validation.

3. Project Execution Support





- Ensure timely release of manufacturing drawings and design documents.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, SCM, Marketing, and Project Management teams.
- Support customer inspections, FAT, type tests, and technical discussions.
- Monitor project milestones and ensure adherence to delivery schedules.

4. Team Leadership

- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of design engineers.
- Review team performance and identify training requirements.
- Promote knowledge sharing, design standardization, and best practices.
- Manage resource allocation and workload planning.

5. Customer & Vendor Interaction Participate in technical clarifications during bidding and order execution.

Provide technical support to customers and consultants.

Coordinate with vendors for technical evaluation of bought-out items.

Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for field issues.

6. Quality & Continuous Improvement

Ensure compliance with ISO processes and design control procedures.

Lead risk assessment and design reviews.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives for quality, productivity, and cost reduction.

Implement lessons learned from testing, manufacturing, and field feedback.

7. Qualifications and Experience

Job Requirements :

- 10-18 years of experience in the Electrical Equipment industry as a Design Engineer or similar role.
- Proficiency in Autocad, Sap, Distribution Transformers, Power Transformers, Ansi, Electrical Design.
- - Education: B.Tech / M.tech in Electrical Engineering;
- Experience: 10–14 years in electrical with strong expertise in transformer design.

Minimum 3-5 years in a leadership or team management role. Experience in design of transformers ranging from distribution transformers to EHV power transformers.

Exposure to domestic and international customer requirements.

Experience in cost optimization, design standardization, and current product development.
