About The Job:
A Mortgage Bankruptcy Process Team Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing mortgage accounts involved in bankruptcy proceedings. The role requires a strong understanding of bankruptcy laws, mortgage servicing, compliance procedures, and team management to ensure accurate and timely resolution of bankruptcy cases while achieving optimal outcomes for both the lender and borrower.
Essential Job Functions:
Team Leadership & Case Management
- Lead and supervise a team responsible for managing mortgage accounts involved in bankruptcy proceedings.
- Review bankruptcy petitions, schedules, court orders, and legal documents to determine the status and impact on mortgage accounts.
- Provide guidance and support to team members handling Chapter 7, Chapter 13, and other bankruptcy cases.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure the team complies with applicable federal and state bankruptcy laws, including the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and Bankruptcy Court rules.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements governing mortgage servicing during bankruptcy proceedings.
Liaison Between Borrower, Lender & Legal Stakeholders
- Serve as an escalation point for bankruptcy attorneys, trustees, borrowers, courts, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate with bankruptcy attorneys, courts, trustees, and other stakeholders to facilitate timely resolution of mortgage bankruptcy cases.
Documentation and Reporting
- Oversee the preparation and submission of required bankruptcy documents, including proofs of claim, court motions, notices, and other legal filings.
- Ensure all bankruptcy-related documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted within required deadlines.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex or high-risk mortgage bankruptcy cases.
- Investigate discrepancies involving claims, payment histories, balances, bankruptcy plans, missing documentation, and account information.
Team Performance, Coaching & Development
- Manage daily workflow and allocation of bankruptcy cases across the team.
- Monitor team productivity, quality, accuracy, turnaround time, and adherence to service-level requirements.
- Conduct regular coaching, feedback, and performance discussions with team members.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Legal Studies, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in mortgage servicing, mortgage bankruptcy, foreclosure, collections, or a related financial services process.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Team Lead, Process Lead, Senior Associate with lead responsibilities, or equivalent supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage bankruptcy processes and bankruptcy laws, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 13.
- Hands-on experience managing or overseeing mortgage accounts during bankruptcy proceedings.
- Experience working with bankruptcy attorneys, trustees, courts, or legal service providers.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of mortgage industry investor/client guidelines, including Freddie Mac and other applicable investor requirements.
- Experience working directly with bankruptcy trustees, attorneys, courts, and legal firms.
- Experience with foreclosure prevention programs and loss mitigation options.
- Experience handling bankruptcy-related claims, court filings, payment plans, and account reconciliations.
- Prior experience managing escalations and high-risk/complex bankruptcy cases.
- Experience in quality control, audit, compliance, or process improvement within mortgage servicing.
- Certification or formal training in bankruptcy, mortgage servicing, or related financial services processes.
