We’re looking for a Backend Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and wants to work on real-time telemetry, large-scale data systems, and products that have a direct impact on road safety.

About the Role

As a Backend Engineer, you’ll be responsible for building the backend infrastructure that powers Lane’s telemetry and driving intelligence platform. You’ll work with high-frequency data from GPS and vehicle/motion sensors, build scalable APIs and data pipelines, and help take our systems from early-stage pilots to production scale.

What You’ll Own

- Build and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and data ingestion systems.
- Develop pipelines to process high-frequency telemetry and sensor data such as GPS, gyroscope, and accelerometer streams.
- Design and optimize databases for telemetry, driver scoring, analytics, and reporting.
- Own AWS infrastructure including deployments, monitoring, scaling, reliability, and cost optimization.
- Build secure authentication, authorization, and role-based access systems for enterprise and internal users.
- Work closely with Product, Mobile, Data, and Engineering teams to design and ship new capabilities.




- Contribute to system architecture and technical decisions as Lane scales its platform.
- Write clean, tested, maintainable, and well-documented code and actively participate in code reviews.

What We’re Looking For

- 2–5 years of experience in backend engineering.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language such as Node.js, Python, Go, or Java.
- Hands-on experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, InfluxDB, or similar.
- Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Solid understanding of REST/GraphQL APIs and backend architecture.
- Understanding of scalable, high-throughput, and real-time data systems.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to take end-to-end ownership in a fast-moving startup environment.

Nice to Have

- Experience with IoT, telematics, connected vehicles, or sensor data.
- Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, MQTT, or other streaming/message queue systems.
- Familiarity with Flutter, iOS, or Android backend integrations.
- Experience working with time-series databases or real-time analytics.
- Exposure to AI/ML data pipelines or data processing systems.
