What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities

The purpose of the Network Engineering Specialist engineer role is to lead the design of IP Internet/VPN technologies. Specifically, this role is accountable for:

n

n
- Design accountability for new features into T International’s network platforms.
n
- Provide thought leadership to senior internal stakeholders and customers regarding aspects of Global Reach platforms and/or customer solutions.
n
- Point of contact for technical expertise to senior stakeholders, internal and external.
n
- Mentor and share knowledge with others and be an advanced user of design tools.
n
- Create and develop architecture patterns and design techniques for BT and/or customers.
n
- Lead on resolving customer impacting issues regarding the overall network platform and/or customer solution.
n
- Solve problems that tend to arise from the interaction of multiple components and usually are complex and unknown related to the overall IP Internet/VPN platform and/or customer solution and involve vendor interworking issues.
n
- Raise and resolve implementation issues with suppliers and other designers.
n
- Resolve in-life issues to overall network platform and/or customer solution, as appropriate.
n
- Lead a matrix team as appropriate within BT International.
n
- Estimate the time and type of resource needed to support deliverables with increasing cost impact and time duration.
n

The skills you’ll need to succeed

n





n

n
- Specialist knowledge of IP/VPN technologies and vendors (Cisco/Juniper)
n
- Specialist knowledge of relevant emerging network/software technologies.
n
- Experience of leading matrix teams to deliver network designs and testing.
n
- Software development skills specifically in solving network issues / activities.
n
- Experience in resolution of customer impacting network issues.
n
- Prior experience of designing network solutions in a service provider setting.
n
- Working knowledge of CI/CD principles and tools such as Gitlab is essential.
n
- Working knowledge of automation test frameworks such as Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and/or Robot Framework is desirable.
n
- Hand-on demonstratable experience with core routing technologies (IS-IS, BGP, BGP-LS, SR-TE, SR IGP, PCEP, MPLS-VPNs)
n
- Understanding and hand-on experience with Quality of Service (QoS).
n
- Expertise in developing frameworks for and automating test cases for systems in production
n
- Experience with data modelling with Yang (with a vendor neutral landscape in mind)
n
- Solid experience with gRPC, JSON.
n
