Key Responsibilities and Roles
Quality Control & Testing: Perform microbiological analysis on samples (raw materials, finished products, packaging) to ensure adherence to safety standards, using methods like culture techniques and, often, molecular identification.
Safety Assurance & Regulatory Compliance: Monitor, implement, and maintain food safety systems (such as HACCP) and ensure compliance with FDA/EFSA regulations.
Pathogen Detection: Detect and control harmful microorganisms that cause foodborne illness to prevent outbreaks.
Spoilage Reduction & Shelf-Life Studies: Identify organisms that cause deterioration, odors, or texture changes, helping to extend product shelf life.




Product Development & Fermentation: Utilize beneficial microorganisms for producing fermented foods (yogurt, cheese, wine) and developing food additives like enzymes.
Environmental Monitoring: Check manufacturing settings for hygiene and cleanliness.
