Main purpose of position
To conduct basic, applied, and strategic research to discover, deploy and develop improved germplasm of legumes especially chickpea.

Reports to: Lead Legume breeder and Regional Coordinator (RC)

Main responsibilities
Plan and execute basic, strategic, and applied research on chickpea in consultation with food legumes team
Develop and deploy breeding material as per the defined breeding product profiles of chickpea in the target populations of workplace in India
Upscaling of chickpea technologies under various projects/initiatives, and linking farmers with research products and developmental activities




Maintenance breeding and quality seed production of chickpea varieties
Data recording and management, statistical analysis and interpretation of results generated from various experiments
Management of breeding and evaluation pipelines of chickpea in BMS or any other system adopted by ICARDA
Prepare manuscripts for publication in reputed journals, technical reports of various projects, technical bulletins, and training materials
Develop research proposals for resource generation
Represent ICARDA in regional and international fora.
Perform any other duties as required by supervisor.

Requirements:
Education, qualifications, and experience
PhD in plant breeding, plant genetics or related scientific fields from a reputed agricultural university
At least 5 years’ experience in breeding crops preferably legumes.
Proven record of quality research publications in international journals
Well trained in recent tools and tec
