We are seeking experienced Microsoft SSRS Developers for an immediate 3-month project focused on migrating an existing suite of Crystal Reports to Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

The project consists of approximately 6 core report designs with multiple variations, potentially representing around 60 reports in total.

This is primarily a migration rather than redesign project. The successful developers will establish reusable SSRS templates that closely replicate the existing Crystal Reports and use these templates to efficiently migrate report variations.

There is potential for one resource to continue beyond the initial 3-month engagement.

Please note: This position requires alignment with Melbourne, Australia business hours

Key Responsibilities

- Migrate existing Crystal Reports to SSRS
- Analyse and understand existing Crystal Reports, including: Parameters,Grouping, Formulas and calculations, Conditional formatting, Subreports Complex and tabular layouts
- Reproduce reports in SSRS with like-for-like functional and visual output
- Develop approximately 2–3 reusable SSRS templates/components to accelerate migration
- Reuse existing SQL data sources and stored procedures wherever possible
- Work with existing SQL data sources, queries and stored procedures
- Configure report parameters and data connections
- Generate and validate report exports including PDF and Excel
- Perform basic SSRS administration and troubleshooting
- Conduct technical verification and testing of migrated reports
- Work with business SMEs to validate report accuracy and functionality
- Manage report migration through development, testing and deployment
- Identify opportunities to simplify or accelerate migration without unnecessarily expanding the project into a redesign

Essential Skills & Experience

- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SSRS




- Proven experience migrating Crystal Reports to SSRS
- Strong understanding of Crystal Reports structures and functionality
- Experience creating reusable SSRS templates and report components
- Strong SQL knowledge and ability to work with existing data sources and stored procedures
- Experience with complex report layouts, parameters, grouping, formulas and subreports
- Experience producing reports for PDF and Excel export
- Basic SSRS administration and troubleshooting capability
- Strong testing and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned report migrations
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when reproducing existing report layouts and outputs

Nice to Have

Experience integrating SSRS with external or .NET applications would be highly regarded, including:

- SSRS Web Services / API integration
- .NET integration with SSRS
- Authenticated report requests
- Windows authentication and service accounts
- Secure unattended report execution
- Programmatic report parameterisation
- Automated PDF and Excel report generation
- Exporting generated reports to network/file shares
- Advising on appropriate SSRS authentication and integration approaches

Project Delivery

The indicative engagement is:

- Months 1–2: Report development and migration
- Month 3: Testing, validation, support and hypercare

The focus is on delivering an productive and accurate migration while maintaining the functionality and presentation of the existing reporting suite.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in developers who have previously completed Crystal Reports → SSRS migration projects and can demonstrate their ability to rapidly understand an existing reporting estate, establish reusable templates and migrate a high volume of report variations efficiently.

Immediate availability is strongly preferred.
