Job Title: Sr. Relay Testing Engineer

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Relay Testing Engineer who will be responsible for testing, commissioning, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protection relays, control systems, and associated substation equipment for MV and HV projects.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform testing and commissioning of Control & Relay Panels (C&R; Panels) up to 400KV, 765KV.
- Test and commission protection relays and schemes for feeder, transformer, motor, generator, line differential, distance, and busbar protection systems.
- Carry out secondary injection testing, primary injection testing, functional testing, scheme checks, and end-to-end testing of protection and control systems.
- Configure, parameterize, calculate relay settings, and troubleshoot numerical relays and Protection & Control IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices).
- Integrate protection relays with SCADA/RTU systems and ensure interoperability between multi-vendor IEDs.
- Configure and validate communication protocols including IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE, Sampled Values), Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3.0, and IEC 60870-5-101/103/104.
- Create datasets, Report Control Blocks (RCBs), GOOSE messaging configuration, signal tagging (SCD/ICD/CID files), and communication mapping using IEC 61850 System Configurator tools.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), pre-commissioning checks, and prepare detailed commissioning and test reports.
- Operate relay testing equipment such as OMICRON, Doble, Megger, Program, Ponovo, ISA, and Freja test kits for injection testing and relay characteristic verification.
- Conduct troubleshooting, retrofit engineering,



relay replacement, and modification/upgradation of existing protection and control systems.
- Analyze fault records (DFR/COMTRADE), identify abnormal system conditions, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare technical documentation including test reports, relay setting sheets, protection coordination schedules, and commissioning records.
- Provide customer support, technical training, and presentations to clients and site teams as required.
- Travel across India and overseas for project execution, site testing, and commissioning assignments.

Required Skills:

- Solid knowledge of Protection Function schemes including Feeder, Line Current Differential Protection, Transformer Differential Protection, Motor Protection, Generator Protection, Distance Protection, Under Voltage Protection, Over Voltage Protection Under Current Protection, Over Current Protection, Differential Protection Earth fault Protection, Breaker Protection, Thermal Overload Protection, and Busbar Protection.
- Hands-on experience in relay testing, relay setting calculation, fault analysis, and commissioning activities.
- Knowledge of CT/PT circuits, schematic reading, wiring checks, and control logic verification
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, Ethernet switches, IP addressing,



and communication troubleshooting.
- Ability to read Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), schematics, interlocking diagrams, and control wiring drawings.
- Good communication and technical report-writing skills.

- Doble: F6150, F6150sv, F6TesT software, and Doble Power DB, Megger and Ponovo
- Secondary injection test kits and relay testing sets
- Additional tools: Primary injection test kits, CT/PT test sets, insulation resistance (megger) testers, timing/contact resistance test sets, and multimeters/clamp meters for commissioning support
