Dream BIG for Melbourne's inner west!
The City of Maribyrnong is home to some of Melbourne's most distinctive town centres, neighbourhoods and precincts. Council is working with local communities, businesses and partners to strengthen these places, support their ongoing vitality and ensure they remain welcoming, active and connected.
We are looking for an experienced place professional to lead the day-to-day delivery of Council's precinct revitalisation work. Footscray will be the main focus of the role, but the work will extend beyond the CBD. You will help shape Council's broader approach to placemaking across Maribyrnong, contributing to the development and implementation of Council's Placemaking Strategy and supporting practical projects that strengthen other activity centres and precincts across the municipality.
The Role
Reporting to the Coordinator Economic Development, you will lead the delivery and day-to-day coordination of the Footscray CBD revitalisation program.
You will work closely with the Coordinator to turn Council's priorities into practical projects, partnerships and improvements on the ground.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day place management of the Footscray CBD and the Footscray Welcome Crew.
- Delivering, monitoring and reporting on the Footscray CBD Place Plan.
- Coordinating responses to issues involving safety, cleanliness, maintenance, vacant shops, public spaces and activity.
- Planning and delivering projects that improve local places, support businesses and attract more people to visit and spend time in Footscray.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of Council's Placemaking Strategy.
- Supporting community-led projects in other priority activity centres and precincts across Maribyrnong.
- Working with traders, property owners, residents, community groups, service providers,
government agencies and Council teams.
- Bringing different Council departments and partner organisations together to solve complex local issues.
- Using data and local knowledge to identify problems, opportunities and investment priorities.
- Managing projects, budgets, consultants, contracts, purchasing processes and risks.
- Preparing reports, briefings, business cases, grant applications and presentations.
- Supervising, coaching and supporting the Footscray Place Officer and Footscray Project Officer.
About You
You're experienced in placemaking, precinct management, economic development, urban renewal, town-centre management, urban planning, community development, public policy or a related field, with an outstanding ability to understand a place, work with different people and turn ideas into action.
You will be comfortable working on the ground with traders and communities, coordinating work across Council, leading staff and consultants, and providing clear advice to senior leaders.
You will bring:
- Strong experience delivering placemaking, place-management, activation or urban renewal programs.
- Experience developing and delivering place plans, precinct strategies or similar programs.
- The ability to understand local issues and develop practical responses.
- Experience leading complex projects from planning through to delivery and review.
- Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills.
- The ability to bring Council, government, business and community partners together.
- Experience supervising, coaching and developing staff.
- Experience managing budgets, consultants,
contracts and risks.
- The ability to use data, research and local knowledge to support decisions.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- A good understanding of how local government works.
You will also have a degree or diploma in a relevant field and significant relevant experience, or an equivalent mix of qualifications and extensive experience.

This role offers a mix of practical precinct work, project delivery, staff leadership and longer-term planning.
