About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Visual Communications Specialist to join our EdTech Learning & Content Development team.

Your job is to transform complex, layered, ambiguous, or fragmented content into cognitively explicit visuals and visual frameworks. It demands conceptual, technical, and information design in equal measure, along with the systems thinking to make the result repeatable.

You are a structural thinker first. Before touching any design or multimedia tool, you have worked out what the source content actually is: what depends on what, what's parallel, what's hierarchical, what the reader needs first. Most of your value is in what you do before anything is styled. You care whether it worked. You’re great at design, but aesthetic satisfaction isn't the finish line; whether the viewer quickly understands it is. You don’t simplify or make things prettier, you make complex, abstract or technical information clear.

This is an information-focused design role, not a brand, marketing, or product interface role. Portfolios centered on campaign work or app/web UI are not aligned with this position.

You'll partner frequently with our Instructional Designer or Learning Architect. You take architected content drafts, scripts, or text-heavy source material, and “translate” the information into something visual.

Your talents span multimodal information visualization: presentations, training materials, technical diagramming, and the creation of visual grammars, design frameworks, and templates that ensure clarity, continuity, and scalability across large bodies of work. It requires both big-picture design thinking and meticulous execution.

Along your career you've become proficient in a wide range of tools. Not because you set out to master any one of them, but because you learned whatever the work required: graphics, layout,



diagramming, video, data, maybe even a bit of code. You reach for the tool that solves the communication problem.

Key Responsibilities

- Detect the latent structure in linear prose (comparison, hierarchy, process, matrix, timeline) and compose it visually
- Divide continuous content into discrete screens, judging what earns a screen, what collapses into a component, what is cut, what must be built up, or what should be revealed interactively
- Determine what the learner sees versus what they hear, with strategic consideration of what narration reinforces vs. what the visuals can communicate effectively on their own
- Produce visual storyboards a developer can build from without interpretation, authoring the screen labels and headers that don't exist in the source material
- Design diagrams that explain processes, systems, decisions, timelines, data, hierarchies, and relationships, solving for density, distribution, and clarity in data-driven visuals
- Build polished PowerPoint templates using master slides, themes, and styles, with strategic composition, typography, placeholders, spacing, alignment, and color, so designers and developers produce consistently branded content
- Analyze a full body of content to design reusable page layouts and interaction strategies
- Produce multimedia assets and serve as creative director for work routed to our Creative Services team for professional graphic design and video production, ensuring visual, functional,



and accessibility consistency across all deliverables

Qualifications

- 6+ years visualizing complex, technical, or ambiguous source material in a corporate, agency, or consulting environment
- Demonstrated experience building template systems and component libraries that other people use correctly without you present
- Strong command of visual hierarchy, spatial organization, semantic grouping, and cognitive load reduction
- Demonstrated ability to work with unfamiliar or specialized subject matters, and the curiosity to ask the questions that reveal its structure
- Excellent collaboration, communication, organization, and time management skills
- Skill in leveraging AI responsibly: for exploration, ideation, acceleration, precision, and QA

Technical Requirements

- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, particularly around the use of masters, templates, global styles, and data visualization
- Experience with professional diagramming tools such as OmniGraffle, Visio, Miro, FigJam, or similar

Nice-to-Have But Not Required

- Experience in L&D;, instructional design, educational publishing, or technical communication design
- Familiarity with instructional design principles and cognitive psychology for learning
- Familiarity with Figma, Articulate Storyline, Acrobat Pro, Vyond, Camtasia, Premiere Pro
- Experience with UI/UX design, wireframing, video production, or visual consulting
- Familiarity with gamification, game design, or interactive media
- Experience with 3D and spatial visualization, including tools such as KeyShot, Blender, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD, and outputs such as exploded views or floorplans
