Role Overview
We are seeking an AI-Native Frontend Engineer to build and evolve OneShop, Deutsche Telekom's customer-facing digital commerce experience. You will combine high-scale web engineering, strong product thinking, and AI-native development practices.
You will modernize a mature commerce frontend and deliver rapid, accessible and resilient journeys across discovery, configuration, offers, cart and checkout, with strong hands-on engineering and pragmatic architectural judgment.
Key Responsibilities
Own frontend architecture and delivery for high-traffic OneShop journeys, balancing experience, performance, maintainability, accessibility, SEO and reliability.
Build production-grade experiences with React, TypeScript, modern state management and SSR, integrating with BFFs, APIs, CMS, authentication and commerce services.
Use AI-native and agentic engineering by default: apply coding agents, LLMs and tool-enabled workflows for code exploration, implementation, testing, debugging, review and automation, with rigorous human validation and accountability.
Design and ship AI-powered experiences where valuable, including guided commerce, intelligent assistance, personalization, summarization and agent-assisted workflows.
Build reusable components and platform capabilities; contribute to design-system and shared engineering standards.
Drive performance through Core Web Vitals and real-user signals; optimize rendering, bundles, caching, network behavior, images and critical journeys.
Engineer quality through automated unit, integration, component and end-to-end tests, contract validation, observability, experimentation and safe releases.
Build secure-by-design frontend and SSR flows covering authentication, sessions, redirects, cookies, untrusted content, API trust boundaries and dependencies.
Partner with product, UX, backend, platform,
data/AI and engineering teams across India and Europe to turn customer and commercial needs into simple solutions.
Modernize incrementally: reduce legacy complexity and technical debt, improve developer experience, and make evidence-based framework/build-vs-buy decisions without disrupting commerce journeys.
Must Have
7+ years of frontend/software engineering experience with strong ownership of production, customer-facing web applications.
Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and React, including component architecture, state management, browser fundamentals, async programming and performance.
Practical experience with SSR and Node.js web runtimes; able to reason across browser, server, BFF and backend boundaries.
Strong REST/HTTP API and CMS integration experience, including authentication, sessions, caching, error handling and resilient user journeys.
Strong testing discipline with modern JavaScript tooling and automated pipelines; design for testability from the outset.
Working knowledge of accessibility, responsive design, semantic HTML, SEO/structured data, Core Web Vitals and cross-browser behavior.
Hands-on use of AI coding assistants or engineering agents, with sound judgment on validation, context, sensitive data and model limitations.
Ability to work effectively in mature codebases: understand dependencies, refactor safely, diagnose production issues and improve architecture incrementally.
Experience in strong product organizations solving customer-facing problems at meaningful scale.
AI-Native Engineering Expectations
Use AI as an engineering multiplier: frame problems well, provide effective context, evaluate outputs and own the resulting code.
Apply Agentic AI ways of working across planning, implementation, testing, debugging and review using coding agents/tool-enabled workflows, while retaining human validation and ownership.
Prototype rapidly with LLMs/agents, then productionize with tests, security, observability, cost/latency controls, fallbacks and measurable outcomes.
Automate repetitive engineering work through agents, tools, reusable prompts, evaluation harnesses or developer-platform capabilities.
Good to Have
Experience in e-commerce, Telecom, marketplaces, subscriptions or complex product/configuration journeys.
Experience with Redux and established React SSR applications, including modernization toward contemporary React architecture.
Hands-on exposure to Next.js and TanStack Query for routing, data fetching, caching and server/client state management.
Exposure to experimentation/personalization, analytics, feature flags, CMS/PageBuilder patterns or design systems.
Familiarity with cloud/container deployments, Kubernetes, observability and SRE concepts sufficient to own frontend production behavior end to end.
Mindset & Collaboration
Customer-obsessed product engineer who links technical choices to conversion, usability, trust and business outcomes.
AI-first curiosity balanced with engineering skepticism and strong security/privacy judgment.
High ownership from ambiguous problem through design, implementation, rollout, measurement and iteration.
Clear communicator and team-oriented teammate across global, distributed, cross-functional teams.
Bias for simple solutions, automation, continuous learning, constructive review and raising the engineering bar.
