JOB DESCRIPTION – LABORATORY ASSISTANT1. Job PurposeTo support Chemists in routine laboratory activities including sample collection, preparation, basic testing, equipment cleaning, sample storage and laboratory housekeeping while ensuring proper identification, traceability and protected handling of samples and equipment.3. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Sample Collection

- Collect samples from designated Production / Process areas as per the sampling plan.
- Ensure samples are representative and collected at the required frequency.
- Transport samples safely to the laboratory.
- Inform the Shift Chemist about any difficulty or abnormality observed during sampling.

B. Sample PreparationCarry out sample preparation activities as instructed, including:

- Drying
- Pulverizing
- Sieving
- Splitting
- Grinding
- Mixing / homogenization
- Sample preparation for instrumental analysis
- Preparation of retained samples

Ensure prepared samples are properly identified and labelled.C. Routine Testing Support

- Perform non-critical / routine testing as assigned by the Shift Chemist or Lab In-charge.
- Assist Shift Chemists during routine laboratory analysis.
- Follow the approved SOP / test method for assigned activities.
- Immediately report unusual observations or abnormal results to the Shift Chemist.
- Do not independently approve or release QC results.

D. Sample Identification & Storage

- Properly label all samples with required identification details.
- Maintain sample traceability from collection through testing.
- Store retained samples in designated locations.
- Dispose of samples only as per the approved SOP and instructions.




- Maintain proper sample storage and organization.

E. Laboratory Housekeeping & Equipment Care

- Maintain laboratory 5S and cleanliness.
- Clean laboratory equipment after use.
- Carry out basic preventive care as instructed.
- Keep workstations, sample preparation areas and storage areas organized.
- Report equipment abnormalities or damage to the Shift Chemist / Lab In-charge.

F. Reporting

- Report sample collection and testing status to the Shift Chemist.
- Immediately communicate abnormal observations, equipment problems or sample-related issues.
- Maintain required supporting records as assigned.

G. Safety

- Follow laboratory safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Handle samples, chemicals and equipment safely.
- Follow safe operating procedures for pulverizers, sieves and other sample preparation equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately to the Shift Chemist / Lab In-charge.

4. Authority & LimitationsThe Laboratory Assistant:

- Does not approve or release QC results.
- Performs only tests and activities authorized by the Shift Chemist / Lab In-charge.
- Must immediately report abnormal results or observations.
- Must not alter or delete laboratory data without authorization.
- Must follow approved SOPs and instructions for all assigned activities.
