About the Role

Were hiring a hands-on Business Intelligence professional to take operational ownership of an established BI reporting setting.

This is a continuity and operational ownership role, not a greenfield rebuild. The selected candidate will work closely with the current BI owner to understand the existing reporting environment, document the platform, transition legacy Azure data sources to a validated Microsoft Fabric/Azure environment, and gradually become the day-to-day owner and primary support contact.

The candidate will initially work alongside the current BI owner through a structured knowledge-transfer process and then transition into full independent ownership.

The existing BI platform will remain in production until it is eventually replaced by a future-state BI environment. The key responsibility will be to ensure that the current platform continues to operate accurately, reliably, and without disruption to the business.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable with production BI support, troubleshooting, data validation, reporting operations, and documentation, and who can quickly understand and take ownership of an unfamiliar environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Environment Knowledge Transfer & Documentation

- Work closely with the outgoing BI owner to understand the existing BI environment.
- Learn all reports, datasets, dashboards, automations, pipelines, integrations, and supporting processes.
- Document the environment thoroughly, including dependencies, processes, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Create and maintain clear runbooks and operational documentation to enable independent support.

2. Access & Operational Readiness

- Obtain and validate access to all required systems, workspaces, service accounts, credentials, and data sources.
- Ensure all required access and dependencies are in place before taking ownership.
- Remove operational dependency on the previous BI owner.

3. Data Source Migration & Transition

- Transition legacy Azure data-source dependencies to validated Microsoft Fabric/Azure-backed sources.
- Repoint existing reports, datasets, pipelines, and integrations where required.
- Preserve existing:
- Reporting outputs
- Business logic
- Data accuracy
- Distribution schedules
- User experience

- Execute source cutovers with minimal or zero disruption to business users.

4. Validation & Stabilization

- Validate reports, datasets, scheduled extracts, distributions,



and downstream dependencies after migration.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation across source and target environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly following source transitions or production changes.
- Ensure reporting continues to deliver accurate and reliable results.

5. Production BI Operations & Support

- Take ownership of the BI reporting environment and serve as the primary operational support contact.

- Monitor:
- Data pipelines
- Report refreshes
- Scheduled extracts
- Report distributions
- Automated workflows

- Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Respond to business-user reporting requests and operational issues.

6. Platform Continuity

- Maintain the stability, reliability, and availability of the existing BI environment.
- Ensure uninterrupted reporting operations until the platform is eventually replaced by the future-state BI environment.

Technical Skillset

Core Data Platform Required

Azure SQL Database / Azure SQL

- Strong experience with T-SQL.

- Writing and optimizing:
- Stored procedures

Azure Data Factory (ADF)

- Experience building, operating, and troubleshooting ADF pipelines.

Microsoft Fabric

- Working knowledge of:
- Fabric Workspaces
- Lakehouse
- Warehouse

- Ability to validate and repoint data sources within a Microsoft Fabric/Azure environment.
- Ability to quickly ramp up on an existing Fabric environment. Data Modeling & SQL
- Strong relational data modeling experience.

- Advanced SQL skills covering:

- Cross-source reconciliation

Reporting & Distribution — Required

Power BI

- Strong experience with:

Power BI Paginated Reports / SSRS

- Experience with Paginated Reports / SSRS-style reporting.
- Knowledge of:

DAX & Power Query

- Ability to write and debug:
- DAX measures
- Calculated columns
- Power Query (M) transformations

Report Distribution

- Experience managing:
- Subscriptions

- Report distribution processes

Automation & Integration — Required

Power Automate

- Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated flows for:
- Report distribution
- Data distribution
- Notifications
- Reporting workflows

Data Integrations

- Experience working with:
- Scheduled data extracts
- CSV/TXT flat-file integrations
- API integrations
- System-to-system data feeds

Excel

- Advanced Excel skills.

- Experience with:

Security, Operations & Governance — Required

Security Configuration

Preferred / Nice to Have

- Experience executing data-source migrations or production cutovers with zero/minimal disruption to end users.
- Experience supporting BI/reporting environments during a platform transition.
- Familiarity with the broader Azure ecosystem, including:

- Experience with Git/version control for BI artifacts.
- PowerShell or Python experience for automation and data validation.
