We are looking for a Chief of Lab to lead laboratory operations at our HLM in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The incumbent will be responsible for the overall technical and operational management of the laboratory, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy, turnaround time, patient safety, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. The role will also involve building and developing the laboratory team, strengthening quality systems and driving continuous improvement in laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

- Lead end-to-end laboratory operations across assigned departments and ensure smooth day-to-day functioning.
- Ensure timely processing, testing, validation and release of laboratory reports.
- Monitor key operational parameters including TAT, sample rejection, repeat rates, productivity and service quality.
- Ensure adequate manpower, equipment, reagents and other resources to support laboratory operations.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.

Quality & Accreditation

- Establish and maintain robust laboratory Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Ensure compliance with applicable local regulatory requirements and organizational quality standards.
- Drive internal quality controls, external quality assurance/proficiency testing and corrective/preventive actions.
- Lead preparation for internal and external audits and accreditation assessments.
- Ensure adherence to SOPs, work instructions, biosafety and infection-control requirements.

Technical & Clinical Governance

- Provide technical leadership for laboratory testing and reporting processes.
- Ensure appropriate validation, verification and implementation of new tests, methodologies and equipment.
- Review critical quality and technical issues and ensure timely resolution.
- Work closely with medical/clinical teams on complex cases, critical values and technical escalations.
- Maintain scientific and technical standards in line with globally accepted laboratory practices.





People Leadership & Capability Building

- Lead, mentor and develop laboratory professionals and support staff.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities and performance expectations for the team.
- Identify skill gaps and drive technical training, competency assessments and cross-training.
- Build a robust culture of quality, accountability, patient centricity and continuous improvement.
- Support manpower planning and recruitment of critical laboratory positions.

Equipment, Reagents & Inventory

- Ensure optimal utilization and availability of laboratory equipment and systems.
- Coordinate equipment installation, validation, calibration, maintenance and uptime.
- Monitor reagent and consumable availability and minimize stock-outs, wastage and expiry.
- Work with procurement and vendors to resolve equipment, reagent and service-related issues.

Process Improvement & Productivity

- Drive initiatives to improve laboratory productivity, cost efficiency and turnaround time.
- Identify opportunities for automation, digitization and process standardization.
- Use operational and quality data to identify trends, root causes and improvement opportunities.
- Benchmark laboratory practices and implement relevant best practices from leading diagnostic organizations.

Compliance, Risk & Patient Safety

- Ensure strict adherence to biosafety, laboratory safety and risk-management protocols.
- Identify potential operational and technical risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Investigate incidents, non-conformities and customer complaints and ensure effective closure.
- Ensure confidentiality, integrity and security of patient information and laboratory records.

Stakeholder Management

- Work closely with Business, Medical, Quality, Operations, HR, Procurement and Finance teams.
- Coordinate with local regulatory bodies, auditors, vendors and other external stakeholders, as required.
- Act as the key technical and operational representative for the laboratory.
- Provide regular management updates on laboratory performance, quality metrics, risks and improvement initiatives.
