Mechanical Engineer - Assembly & Deployment

About the Role

Cosy Farms builds modular hydroponic growing units deployed inside hotels and restaurants, supplied from a central hub farm in Mumbai. This role owns a unit’s journey after it leaves the design stage, from assembly at our production facility, through transport and installation at the client site, to commissioning and handover.

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who understands mechanical assembly, plumbing, and structural fitment well enough to direct a team on the floor and at site - not just execute tasks, but ensure every unit ships to spec, deploys on time, and passes QC.

Key Responsibilities

Assembly Oversight

- Ensure units are assembled to drawing and BOM spec, directing the on-floor team and stepping in hands-on when needed
- Own pre-dispatch quality checks and functional testing - sign-off before a unit leaves the floor
- Flag design or fitment issues to engineering and drive assembly improvements

Field Deployment

- Lead in office installation: plan the sequence, confirm site readiness, and direct the team through positioning and setup
- Coordinate utility connections (power, water) with client facility teams and local contractors
- Manage on-site logistics - tools, spares, and manpower needed for the deployment
- Own troubleshooting when site conditions don’t match the plan

Commissioning & Handover

- Own the commissioning process - start-up checks, leak/load tests, safety checks, before go-live




- Train client-side staff on daily operation and basic troubleshooting
- Document the commissioning checklist and punch-list, and get client sign-off

Coordination & Reporting

- Keep the deployment schedule on track and communicate timelines to production and client-facing teams
- Report installation status, issues, and client feedback to management
- Build out standardised assembly and installation SOPs as the fleet scales

Requirements

Must-Have

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of experience in assembly, installation, or field service of technical/mechanical equipment
- Comfortable with extrusions profiles, metals, irrigation, pumps, and fittings, enough to judge quality and troubleshoot, not just execute
- Ability to read technical/engineering drawings and BOMs
- Willingness to travel across India for installations
- Strong troubleshooting instincts - able to diagnose and resolve issues on-site

Nice-to-Have
- Experience with agri-tech, greenhouse, or controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) systems
- Prior experience training end-users/clients on equipment operation
- Vendor/contractor coordination experience (electricians, plumbers, riggers)

What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)

- Independently ensures units are assembled to spec with minimal supervision
- Leads full installations, site setup through commissioning and handover, with client sign-off
- Contributes to a documented SOP for assembly and installation
- Reduces average installation-to-commissioning time by identifying recurring bottlenecks
