Employment Type: Full-time

Work Mode: On-site / Work from Office

Location: Bangalore

Experience: 5+ years of professional experience, with demonstrated leadership or mentorship experience

Salary: ₹15–20 LPA

About AutoVRse

At AutoVRse, we build immersive experiences at the intersection of gaming, XR, 3D, and emerging technologies. Our work spans VR training, virtual experiences, interactive applications, and immersive entertainment, with enterprise partners including Shell, Bosch, Aditya Birla Group, Godrej, and Go-Jek.

Alongside our enterprise work, we are building original games and experiences that explore what makes virtual worlds compelling, interactive, and meaningful for players. We are a multidisciplinary team where individuals have high agency, take ownership of their work, and have the opportunity to directly influence the games we create.

About GRO

Drive World-Building: Lead the visual identity for GRO (200,000+ players) by shaping its next chapter with rich, engaging VR environments.

Player-Centric Design: Deeply understand player motivations to craft familiar, satisfying virtual spaces where they feel a true sense of belonging.

About the Role

Lead Visual Direction: Drive the overall artistic vision, world-building, and cohesive design identity for GRO.

Design-Driven Concepting: Bridge art and gameplay by evaluating how environments and assets enhance the player experience.

Team Mentorship & Review: Guide, mentor, and review artists to maintain visual quality and align output with game intent.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with designers, 3D artists, and developers to translate gameplay ideas into functional concepts.

Rapid Prototyping: Utilize 2D/3D software and blockouts to quickly iterate, solve spatial problems, and directly influence game development.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

World-building and visual direction

● Define and evolve the visual style, aesthetic direction, and overall look and feel of GRO’s world.

● Review and guide the work of other artists to ensure consistency with the game’s visual identity, design goals, and quality standards.

● Identify visual inconsistencies or gaps early and provide constructive, actionable feedback to bring work back in line with the intended direction.

● Develop concepts for recent maps, environments, adventure spaces, exploration areas, characters, props, and interactive elements.

● Establish visual directions that balance imagination and novelty with the familiarity and emotional appeal that resonate with GRO’s players.

● Translate the game’s creative vision into clear visual guidelines, references, and direction that other artists can understand and execute.

Design thinking and player experience

● Work closely with Game Designers to understand gameplay goals, player interactions, and the intended experience before developing visual solutions.

● Approach creative problems through both an artistic and functional lens, considering how spaces and objects will actually be used by players.

● Think through player perspective, navigation, readability, scale, interaction affordances, and the flow of an experience in VR.

● Help design satisfying VR interactions by considering how visual form, feedback, placement, and environmental context support player actions.

● Ask the right questions about player motivation and behavior,

and use those insights to make stronger creative decisions.

● Ensure that visual concepts support the game’s mechanics and emotional goals rather than existing only as standalone artwork.

● Help other artists understand the gameplay and player-experience reasoning behind their work, so they can make better design decisions independently.

Concept development and production

● Create high-quality sketches, visual explorations, storyboards, style frames, and polished concepts to communicate ideas.

● Rapidly explore multiple directions using digital painting, 3D blockouts, kitbashing, photobashing, paintovers, or other effective workflows.

● Translate rough gameplay ideas into clear, compelling, and production-feasible concepts.

● Collaborate with 3D Artists and other production teams to ensure concepts can be accurately and practically translated into game-ready assets.

● Provide clear visual references, design callouts, and direction that help the team maintain consistency throughout production.

● Present creative ideas effectively, incorporate feedback constructively, and iterate without losing sight of the underlying design intent.

● Maintain strong ownership of your own concept work while balancing the responsibilities of reviewing, guiding, and supporting the team.

Team leadership, mentorship, and delivery

● Mentor and train younger artists, helping them develop their artistic fundamentals, design thinking, technical workflows, and ability to solve creative problems independently.

● Provide regular, constructive feedback through reviews, paintovers, demonstrations, and hands-on guidance.

● Help artists understand the expectations, priorities, and creative intent behind their work, rather than simply assigning tasks.

● Support other artists in planning and prioritizing their work, breaking down complex assignments, and identifying the most important next steps.

● Proactively identify blockers, dependencies, or areas where team members need support, and help resolve them before they affect delivery.

● Balance your own production responsibilities with the needs of the team, ensuring that both your individual work and the team’s deliverables progress effectively.

● Foster a collaborative environment where artists feel comfortable asking questions, sharing work early, receiving feedback, and continuously improving.

● Communicate progress, risks, priorities, and creative decisions clearly with the Art team, Game Designers, and other stakeholders.

● Take initiative in improving team workflows, visual consistency, and the overall quality and efficiency of concept-art production.

What We’re Looking For

● 4+ years of professional experience as a Concept Artist, Visual Development Artist, Game Artist, or in a closely related role, with demonstrated experience mentoring or guiding other artists.

● A strong and relevant portfolio demonstrating concept development, visual exploration, world-building, and design thinking.

● Excellent artistic fundamentals, including composition, colour, lighting, perspective, form, anatomy,

scale, and visual storytelling. Being able to work in 3D is a huge positive.

● A demonstrated ability to take a rough idea and develop it into a clear, compelling visual direction through multiple iterations.

● Strong design thinking and the ability to understand gameplay requirements, player interactions, and functional constraints.

● The ability to think from the player’s perspective and create environments that serve the intended experience, not just the visual aesthetic.

● Curiosity about target audiences and a willingness to deeply understand what motivates players and what makes a world resonate with them.

● Proven ability to mentor younger artists and provide clear, constructive feedback that helps them improve.

● The ability to assess other artists’ work, identify where it diverges from the game’s vision, and guide it toward a cohesive visual direction.

● Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain creative decisions clearly and keep relevant stakeholders aligned.

● A proactive approach to identifying problems, anticipating team needs, and taking initiative without waiting for detailed instructions.

● Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to help others manage their workloads and complete their assignments while delivering your own work.

● The ability to work independently, take ownership, and contribute meaningfully to creative and design decisions.

● A collaborative leadership style that combines high artistic standards with patience, empathy, accountability, and a genuine interest in helping other artists grow.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in relevant creative tools and workflows, such as:

● Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator

● Blender, 3ds Max, or other 3D modelling software

● Digital painting and illustration

● Concept-art and visual-development workflows

● Rapid 3D blockouts and iterative visual exploration

We care more about your ability to use the right tools to explore and communicate strong ideas than about proficiency in any one specific 3D package.

Good to Have

● Professional experience working on VR/AR or immersive experiences.

● Understanding of VR-specific visual and interaction principles, including scale, comfort, readability, and player perspective.

● Experience in game development pipelines.

● Familiarity with Unity or Unreal Engine.

● Understanding of how concept art translates into 3D production and real-time environments.

● Experience working on multiplayer or interactive game experiences.

● Experience designing environments that support exploration, discovery, or player-driven gameplay.

● Experience leading a small art team, establishing visual guidelines, or owning the visual direction of a game or project.

● Experience developing junior artists through structured mentorship, feedback, or training.
