About The Role

Square One has developed a suite of internal applications and automation tools that support our production, studio and business workflows. As these systems grow in scope and daily usage, we are looking for a dedicated engineer to take full ownership of them. In this role you will be responsible for the stability, documentation and continued development of our internal technology stack.

The initial focus is on consolidating and strengthening existing systems — establishing proper standards, improving reliability and building a explicit technical foundation — followed by ongoing enhancement and new development as our workflow needs evolve.

Key responsibilities

- Take ownership of Square One's internal applications and automation tools
- Establish and maintain version control, configuration management and technical documentation standards
- Improve system reliability, resilience and continuity across all internal platforms
- Provide day-to-day support to teams using these systems and resolve issues as they arise
- Enhance existing applications and develop new tools in line with business requirements
- Identify and automate manual processes across studio and operational workflows
- Manage the servers,



databases and environments supporting these applications
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure continuity of technical knowledge across the organisation

Required Skills

- 2–4 years building or maintaining internal applications, tools or automation
- Strong Python, with practical experience of scripting and working against APIs
- Ability to work independently across an established codebase and take it forward
- Good command of SQL and relational databases
- Git and sound version control practice
- Working knowledge of Linux and Windows servers — deployment, configuration and ongoing administration
- Effective use of AI-assisted development tools, with the discipline to review and validate their output
- Methodical approach to troubleshooting, with a focus on root cause rather than temporary fixes
- Strong documentation habits

Preferred

- Web application experience (frontend or backend)
- Docker or equivalent containerisation experience
- Interest in 3D, rendering, VR or creative production environments
