JOB SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
· BE or BTech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
· 8–10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance within a reputed manufacturing or process-plant environment.
· Strong knowledge of preventive, predictive, breakdown, and condition-based maintenance practices for production equipment and utilities.
· Hands-on expertise in rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, piping, and mechanical drives.
· Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability and reduce repeat breakdowns.
· Working knowledge of maintenance planning, shutdown execution, spare-parts management, lubrication practices, alignment, balancing, vibration monitoring, and basic condition-monitoring techniques.
· Maintenance work-order management, equipment history, and maintenance KPI reporting, including MTBF, MTTR, downtime, and PM compliance.
· Sound understanding of EHS requirements, permit-to-work controls, lockout/tagout, contractor safety, and statutory requirements applicable to mechanical equipment.
· Good analytical, planning, problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills, with a disciplined and hands-on approach.
· Ability to work in shifts or respond to critical plant breakdowns outside normal working hours when required.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Execute and monitor preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of plant mechanical equipment to achieve safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
· Plan daily, weekly, and shutdown maintenance activities in coordination with Production, Electrical, Instrumentation, EHS, Quality, and other support functions.
· Troubleshoot mechanical failures, restore equipment safely within minimum possible downtime, and conduct root-cause analysis for recurring problems.
· Maintain and improve pumps, compressors, shafts, gearboxes, bearings, couplings, conveyors, mechanical drives, hydraulic & pneumatic systems, piping, valves, and related plant equipment with the help of inhouse team and or external vendors.
· Carry out inspections, lubrication, precision alignment, balancing, bearing replacement, condition monitoring, and equipment overhauls in accordance with approved procedures and schedules.
· Create, close, and review maintenance work orders; update equipment history, checklists,
bills of materials, technical documents, and maintenance records in the CMMS or SAP PM system.
· Track downtime, MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, maintenance cost, and recurring failure trends; recommend and implement reliability improvements.
· Identify critical spare parts, define minimum and maximum stock levels, raise purchase requisitions, inspect received materials, and support inventory optimization.
· Supervise technicians and contractors, allocate work, verify workmanship, and ensure compliance with permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, PPE, housekeeping, and site EHS requirements.
· Support installation, modification, commissioning, and handover of current or upgraded mechanical equipment, including review of drawings, specifications, and maintainability requirements.
· Participate in safety reviews, maintenance audits, statutory inspections, shutdown planning, energy-saving initiatives, and continuous-improvement activities.
· Provide clear maintenance status updates, escalate risks and resource needs promptly, and maintain effective communication with operations and engineering leadership.
SECONDARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Prepare maintenance schedules, shift and breakdown reports, spare-parts requirements, shutdown plans, and monthly maintenance KPI summaries.
· Support reliability studies, equipment upgrades, cost-reduction projects, maintenance standardization, and operator-maintenance or autonomous-maintenance initiatives.
· Coach technicians on safe work practices, troubleshooting, precision maintenance, documentation, and equipment-care standards.
· Perform other mechanical maintenance, utility, engineering, compliance, or site-improvement responsibilities assigned by the Site Director.
